ACTING PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Mr Scott Thompson

Thank You to All Our Amazing Volunteers!
The gift of time is precious, and volunteers are truly generous when it comes to investing this valuable resource in our school and with our students. Each year, Currimundi State School takes a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to all our wonderful volunteers.
If you have assisted in any facet of school life, from excursions and events to the tuck shop and classroom, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude. In appreciation of your unwavering support throughout the year, Currimundi State School cordially invites you to join us for an afternoon tea and a special parade to say 'Thank You' for everything you do for our students.
We are incredibly fortunate to have so many members of our community willing to generously give their time to support our school. Thank you!

Kind Regard

Regards,
Scott Thompson

Deputy Principal | Prep – Yr 02 | Mrs Tina Houtsma

As we navigate through the final five weeks of the school year, I am very proud of the energy and dedication that our teachers and students have displayed so far. It has indeed been a busy start, with our classrooms echoing with the creative spirits of Arts Week, the splashes of Prep – Yr 04 students improving their swimming techniques, and the enthusiastic participation of our Prep – Yr 02 students as they begin Surf lifesaving skills. These experiences are not just fun and educational; they are building blocks for our students' confidence and resilience.
This week, we are proud to celebrate Ability Week, a time when we shift our perspectives by taking the 'dis' out of disability and focusing on the unique abilities that each of our students possesses. It is a reminder that every individual brings a special set of strengths to our school community.
GET SET FOR PREP IN 2024
Starting school is an important milestone in a child's life, with many children revelling in the changes and challenges during their transition to school.
It has been fantastic to meet lots of the friendly faces who are coming to join us at Currimundi for Prep next year. I have had the pleasure of meeting with a number of families over the last two weeks during our transition day and Prep interviews.
I am looking forward to seeing them all again during our last transition activity for the year on Tuesday 21 November 9:00am - 10:00am.
If you know of anyone who intends on enrolling for Prep at our school, please encourage them to contact us before the holidays as it is important that we have as much information as possible to manage our enrolments going into 2024.
Supporting a successful transition to school
There are many ways we can support our children to have a great start to school — from using kindy transition statements to sharing practical ideas about starting school.
Education Queensland’s Transition to school campaign raises awareness among families about the transition statement and how it supports a great start to school. Short videos will feature on digital and social media channels, and articles, tips and downloadable resources for parents/carers can be found on The Early Years Count website.
If you have preppies starting school with us in 2024, I would encourage you to visit the site above. Your child’s transition statement is a valuable source of information, for not only you but also for the school. We encourage you to pass on your child’s transition statement to the school, either through your kindergarten facility or personally to the school.
As we count down the weeks, let us cherish each moment and continue to support our students in making the most of every opportunity. Together, we are not just a school; we are a community that learns, celebrates, and grows together.
Kind Regard

CURRICULUM NEWS | MRS JODIE FINDLAY

World Diabetes Day | Tuesday 14 November 2023
World Diabetes Day is a global awareness day held each 14 November of each year. It became an official United Nations Day in 2006. The 14 November was chosen as it's the birthday of Frederick Banting, who discovered insulin.
World Diabetes Day is a global occasion on which people with diabetes, health professionals, diabetes advocates, media, the general public and government organisations unite to raise awareness of diabetes.
The theme for World Diabetes Day is Access to Diabetes Care. The focus of the campaign in 2023 is on delaying or preventing type 2 diabetes and diabetes-related complications, with the slogan “Know your risk, Know your response.”

Did you know?
- Designated staff provide support for students with diabetes while at school or at school related activities such as camps, excursions and sports events.
- In some cases, designated staff will administer insulin or help a student to self-administer their insulin.
- This is a voluntary role and staff who agree to provide this support receive extra training to help them to fulfil this role.
Some facts about Diabetes
- 1-in-11 adults or 463 million were living with diabetes last year and the number is expected to rise to 578 million by 2030
- 50% of adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed, most of them have type 2 diabetes
- 80% of people with diabetes are under 65 years old
Semester Two Assessment & Report Cards

As we are at the middle of term 4, teachers are very busy starting and continuing assessment. At the same time, our students are very busy completing assessment items and demonstrating how much they have learned this year so far. At Currimundi State School, our teachers are highly capable, dedicated and hardworking. We certainly appreciate the great work they do in classrooms every day and how hard they will be working to prepare report cards.
What do the A-E standards really mean?
Reporting has changed quite a lot over the years so it is important that you know what the A-E standards really mean. Did you realise that a ‘C’ on a report means that your child is achieving AT year level expectations? A ‘B‘ or an ‘A‘ indicates deep knowledge and understanding of the subject and content and an ability to apply their learning flexibly in new or less familiar contexts.
Kind Regards
Jodie Findlay

5H Has Been Busy
The first half of Term 4 has been a busy one in 5H.
I wanted to say a big thank you to Kym, one of our parent helpers, for all her help and amazing support in our classroom this year. Kym has come twice a week every term to help support students in literacy groups. We definitely couldn’t do it without you. We appreciate your support and patience.
In English, students have been busy diving into the world of Poetry. Students had to analyse the poem Mother Earth and write an analyse about the poetic devices throughout and their preference of the poem.
In Science; we have been revising key concepts from throughout the year including all things adaptations, the solar system and states of matter. Last week students had fun creating some slime and looking at its properties. It was messy but so fun.
Week 4 was a week full of Art. Students participated in an art workshop where students used many modes of art including painting, collage and drawing to create their own phones. These wonderful art pieces can be seen hanging in our classroom along with other art pieces from students.
As we enter the second half of Term 4; our schedule becomes busier and busier with
- Surf Skills
- Christmas concert
- leadership
- and end of year events.
Students will also be moving into their senior year of schooling. We have had many discussions around being a leader of the school and coming to school with a positive and polite attitude.
Have a Wonderful Term 4!
Coaches of the future! Sparks Program

Sparks in Semester Two continued with many wonderful activities. One of the options students had was The Sports Coach. The group learnt about 3 different sports (tennis, netball and football) - the history, rules and equipment. After this they learnt some skills in the sport they could use to coach younger students.
In weeks 1-3 this term they coached Year Two students and did a fantastic job in engaging and encouraging them each session.

Congratulations to all Sports Coach students who will receive a certificate in an upcoming parade. What will ignite your 'Spark' next year?
