ACTING PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Mr Scott Thompson

Hello Currimundi Community,
Well, that’s the term almost done and sadly also my time at Currimundi for the time being.
It’s been a really busy couple of weeks with Cross Country, NAPLAN, Parent Teacher Interviews and assessments. All of which have been run brilliantly.
Cross Country
For our first whole school Cross Country it was a total success. Battling the weather gods our P.E. Team timed it to perfection, except for our poor year one boys who copped a bit of a squall, which just added to the enjoyment for them I’m sure.
If you didn’t get a sausage then you really missed out, our P&C did an amazing job running the sausages sizzle.
On the whole it was a great day congratulations to Rungi who won the Senior Cross Country and Yeranda who won the Juniors.
It was really pleasing to hear students who attend Wednesday’s Fit Club really improved on their placings from last year. It just goes to show that hard work pays off.
Thanks to all the staff for your hard work in the lead up and on the day. Let’s make it bigger and better next year.
Parent/Carer Teacher Interviews
This is a great opportunity to check in with your child’s teacher around how they are progressing so far this term. We very much value working with our families, to help your child be as successful as they can be we need a team approach. Ensuring we are on the same page and communicating is essential.
Please respect the 15 min time slot as we have many parents/carers wanting to chat with teachers.
Thank you
I would love to thank our Curra community for making me feel so welcome. I have absolutely loved my time with you. You have an incredible school focussed on putting our kids first. From the moment I walked through the gates there was an amazing feeling in the place. The kids are friendly and polite, staff is professional and amazing caring about each child, our P&C is hardworking and committed. In all it makes for an amazing school culture. This little school by the beach goes more than alright. I’ll be sad to be leaving and have loved my time here. Thank you.
Holidays
With holidays coming up please stay safe on our roads, look after yourselves, relax, unwind and enjoy time with our lovely children.
Can I ask all parents/carers to just monitor our school over the school holidays and report to School Watch on 13 17 88 if you see anything suspicious.
Thanks for your supporting our friendly little school by the beach.

Regards,
Scott Thompson

Deputy Principal | Prep – Yr 02 | Mrs Tina Houtsma

It is hard to believe that Term 1 is almost over. As we head towards the end of Term 1 our students have been busy completing assessment tasks to show this term’s learning and working towards their individual learning goals to achieve success.
Teachers have also been busy marking, planning and moderating students work. The last day of the school term is Thursday 28 March. Term 2 commences Monday 15 April 2024.
Preps in the News
Keep an eye out for the pictorial memento of Sunshine Coast Prep students, including our Currimundi Prep Classes in the Sunshine Coast Daily on Thursday 28 March.

Prep to Yr02 Easter Hat Parade
How are your Easter hats coming along?
Prep, Year 01 and Year 02 students have begun to practice their Easter dances and are eager to perform them on Thursday 28 March during our Easter Hat Parade. This is always a popular event for our junior school and is often a packed-out hall with standing room only left.

Before School Routine
The school office opens its doors at 8:15 am, and for safety reasons, it is advised that students should not arrive prior to this time. Upon their arrival, students are required to wait in specific areas designated for each year group. Then, at 8:35 am, the playing of music serves as a cue for students to proceed to their classroom pickup area.

Playground Rules
Just a reminder that all school rules still apply before and after school when on school grounds.

Prep 2025
Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers. The first step is to determine when your child can commence. Use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep.
Simply select your child's month and year of birth.
If you have a child starting Prep in 2025, please notify the office as we are now taking enrolments.
Pre-Prep Transition Program
We have a busy term ahead with a few opportunities for Pre-Preps to come along and join in some of our activities.

Commencing next term, I will be conducting regular school tours for families wanting to enrol or wanting to know more about what our friendly little school by the beach can offer their child. I am looking forward to meeting all prospective parents/carers. Bookings are now open.

Have a safe and Happy Easter break.
Kind Regards

Bettina Houtsma

Deputy Principal | Yr 03-06 | Mrs Amanda Brewer

As we end the Term, we look back and cannot believe how much we have achieved in such a short time. Have a safe and dry Easter with your families.
NATIONAL RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY FRIDAY 22 March 2024
National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. It is a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents/carers discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.
Despite the inclement weather we had 79 students ride to school, two skate to school, 21 scooter to school and 173 park further from the school than usual and walk.
Spirits were high and the school community enjoyed the change to routine for some.
We held a colouring in Competition promotion for the day and the winners are published below. They will receive their prize at the Whole School Parade on Monday 25 March 2024 at 1:50pm in the School Hall.

BIKE ON – BIKE SAFETY LESSONS – Years 03, 04 & 05
This year we were fortunate to win a TMR grant allowing Years 03, 04 & 05 to participate in Bike Safety Lessons endorsed by Bicycle Queensland presented by BIKE ON. Bicycle Queensland have comprehensive resources and videos at PARENT INFO that you can access to assist you with bike safety topics relevant to your children.
About the Program
The program consists of a 1½ hour practical cycle skills and road safety education session run by BikeOn’s experienced and skilled instructors. A skills course will be set up on the school grounds for the day and it will include traffic signs (Stop, Give-Way). Each session will have a game led approach (appropriate for the age of the students) to engage the students while teaching them how to become aware of the traffic around them.
The program will be held during class time and conducted on school grounds in a traffic free
environment. Where possible students are encouraged to bring along their own bikes and helmets.
This session is not suitable for children who have never learnt to ride a bicycle and who need one-on one coaching and instruction.
Look out for Consents via QParents, Webforms & some via the classroom in hardcopy regarding this as the sessions are in Term 2!
Year 05 and 06 STUDENT TUCKSHOP ASSISTANTS
This program will begin in Term 2 after training has been undertaken by the applicants. All students must be 10 years or older to participate. If your Year 05 or 06 child applied, please check correspondence coming out next week regarding parental consent.
Regards,

Amanda Brewer

NAPLAN 2024
Thank you to our dedicated Year 3 and 5 teachers and our hardworking Year 3 and 5 students, NAPLAN ONLINE 2024 was a success. Students were focussed on producing their best efforts and very respectful of the test conditions required for us in the administration of these tests. We are so very proud and appreciative of the way in which the students went about completing the tests to the best of their ability and they should be congratulated. The data and information we gain from NAPLAN drives ongoing improvement at school, state and national levels.
This week we have been conducting the Conventions of Language and Numeracy tests. We have also provided catch up tests for students that may have missed some or all of the NAPLAN tests last week.

How is my child’s performance reported?
From 2023, NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the child at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling.
Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:
Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.
A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided by your child’s school later in the year. If you do not receive a report, you should contact your child’s school.
How are NAPLAN results used?
- Students and parents/carers use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
- Teachers use results to help identify students who need greater challenges or extra support.
- Schools use results to identify strengths and areas of need to improve teaching programs, and to set goals in literacy and numeracy.
- School systems use results to review the effectiveness of programs and support offered to schools.
- The community can see information about the performance of schools over time at myschool.edu.au
Kind Regards
Jodie Findlay

CROSS COUNTRY
Prep – Yr02
We are excited to announce the success of our first ever Prep to Year 02 Cross Country Event! The day was filled with cheers and an incredible display of house spirit and teamwork.
Our young athletes showed determination and resilience as they navigated the course, with each and every student giving their best effort.
It was a sight to behold as the Prep to Yr02 runners made their way around the track, supported by their teammates and cheered on by their peers and the Curra Community.
The event was not just about competition, but also about building a sense of community for our students. It was heart-warming to see the older students supporting the younger ones, offering encouragement and guidance throughout the race.
We are already looking forward to next year's cross-country event, where we hope to see even more enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display.
A huge thank you to the P&C who provided our little ones with a well-earned sausage and/or treat after their race!!

YMCA OSHC NEWS

The month of March at the Y has been very busy. We have been running activities around Children’s Health and Safety including drawing their 5-safe people, road safety and the importance of washing hands. The children also created their own Family Tree of the people in their world. Group games, Dancing and Running Races including the Beep Test kept us active inside. Outside we did gardening and team sports. Construction is always popular and this leads the children into creative pretend play. Overall a fun month for all.
The school Holidays are approaching fast. Please remember to book via The My Family Lounge APP. I have attached The Holiday Flyer.
