PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

All the short weeks this term mean we are fast approaching the halfway point of the term. Mid-term 2 signals a busy time for Currimundi State School. All students are well into their learning for the term and all staff are closely monitoring the progress of every student and planning for extra support where needed.

School Explicit Improvement Agenda
Our school focus is on ensuring every child is succeeding to their potential ability. This year our focus is on the following two big items:
- Maximising Student Progress: Realising the potential of every student by continuing to develop a safe and supportive learning environment where students are engaged, supported and can flourish.
- Building an Expert Teaching Team: Empowering educators to build professional expertise across their career through high quality, targeted development opportunities.

Your Education
Jillian Pass
Principal
Deputy Principal | Prep – Yr 02 | Mrs Tina Houtsma

The first half of Term 2 has simply flown by! We are now into the swing of things with a range of activities happening at school for our Prep - Year 02's.
As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, our students are deeply immersed in their assessment tasks. This period can be particularly challenging for both students and teachers, emphasising the need for strong support at home and consistent routines.
As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, students are preparing getting ready to complete their final assessments for Semester 1.
As students tackle their assessments, adequate sleep becomes more crucial than ever. Sleep hygiene plays a vital role in students' cognitive function, emotional regulation, and stress management. To support your child's success, we recommend establishing a consistent bedtime routine, limiting screen time before bed, and ensuring a calm sleep environment. Adequate rest can significantly enhance a child's ability to manage academic pressures and maintain overall well-being.

Year 02 How Does it Work’ Incursion
Aligning with their Science Unit, our Year 02 students will attend a full-day activity session conducted by the Sunshine Coast Environmental Education Centre (SCEEC) staff in our School Hall next week. They will have the opportunity to engage in scientific exploration through play, investigation, and experimentation with various toys and games that involve concepts of pushing and pulling.
Year 01 Fire Ed Visit
Fire Ed will be visiting our Year 1 students on June 17 to discuss fire safety. After the informative session, our students will have the opportunity to closely observe their equipment and even engage in some hands-on experience, possibly getting the chance to squirt some water!
Prep Sounds Great InitiaLit party | Thursday 30 MAY 2024
Prep students are looking forward to celebrating their learning of letters and their sounds this year.
The celebrations will be kicking off with a Parade in the School Hall at 9:00am and followed by rotational phonic activities and concluding at 10:30am.
Parents/Carers, please let your Prep teacher know if you are able to assist on the day during the morning.
We look forward to welcoming some of our future 2025 Prep students who will be visiting and participating on the day.

PREP 2025
Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers. The first step is to determine when your child can commence. Use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep. Simply select your child's month and year of birth.
If you have a child starting Prep in 2025, please notify the office as we are now taking enrolments.

PRE-PREP TRANSITION PROGRAM
We have a busy term ahead with a few opportunities for Pre-Preps to come along and join in some of our activities.

SCHOOL TOURS
I have already commenced conducting regular school tours for families interested in enrolling or learning more about what our friendly little school by the beach can offer their child. It's been a pleasure to meet many of our future families, and I'm looking forward to the next two tours scheduled for this term. I am eager to meet all prospective parents/carers. Bookings are now open.

P&C Day
Happy P&C Day to all our most wonderful volunteers that support our little school by the beach. We appreciate everything you do for our CURRA Kids!

Let's work together to support our students in achieving their best during this busy term. Your cooperation and understanding are invaluable in fostering an environment where every child can thrive.

Kind regards
Bettina Houtsma
Deputy Principal
Deputy Principal | Yr 03-06 | Mrs Amanda Brewer

We have had a very busy fortnight!
SCHOOL PHOTOS
School photos occurred last week and we are already beginning with the proofing process. We usually receive these at the end of this term or early next term. If you have any issue once receiving the photos, please contact MSP Photography directly. Unfortunately, the taking of sibling or individual photos cannot be made up if your child was absent or missed their sibling photo. Please communicate with the company of you have paid for them in advance but did not have them taken.
ASPIRANT LEADERS
Those Year 05 students who applied for an aspirant leader position for the remainder of this year, will find out if they were successful at the end of next week. We look forward to them working with our Leadership Portfolio’s for the remainder of this year, attending meetings and assisting around the school. Perhaps some will be inspired to apply for a Year 6 Leadership position next year. This process begins in the last few weeks of Term 3.
YEAR 5 and 6 CAMPS
Both Camps are at Maranatha Yandina Campus, however each year level participated in different activities. Notes for both camps will be coming out before the end of the term to allow a longer period to pay for this larger expense.
Please note that there has been a DATE CHANGE for Year 05 Camp this year.
Camp is a fantastic opportunity for students to bond with their class and cohort, participate in outdoor team activities and build their leadership, responsibility and confidence.
Year 06 CAMP | TERM 3: Wednesday 14 - Friday 16 August
Year 05 CAMP | TERM 4: Monday 14 - Wednesday 16 October
Yr06 High School Transition Day | Tuesday 18 June 2024
At the end of the term all of our year 06 students have the opportunity to experience a day at High School.
This day is a worthwhile high school experience day. One of our teachers will attend each school with the students who make their own way to and from the high school on the day. Year 06 parents and carers, please check for the information that has already been dispersed by our school.
Please note:
- Parent/Carers are to transport students to and from their perspective, in zone High School.
- If your student is not attending one of the State High Schools, this will be a normal school day at Currimundi State School.
- If your student is absent on this day due to illness, family, etc., please ensure that this is added to QParents/Notify Absence as per normal process.

Regards

Amanda Brewer

What is my Child Learning at School?
The Australian Curriculum is designed to develop successful learners; confident and creative individuals; and active and informed young people who are ready to take their place in society. It sets the goals for what all students should learn as they progress through schooling – wherever they live in Australia and whatever school they attend. There are 8 learning areas, which provide a modern curriculum for every student in Australia. The curriculum includes 7 general capabilities intended to help prepare young Australians to learn, live and work in the 21st century. There are 3 cross-curriculum priorities that also enrich the learning areas. The Australian Curriculum is used flexibly by schools and teachers, who plan the learning for all their students while taking into account their local school community.

Don’t forget to check out the Currimundi State School website.
Under the tab of Head to the Curriculum click here Teacherin Learning!
Academic Reporting Semester 1 2024
Academic reporting involves communicating information to parents, carers and students about student achievement and progress for each learning area/subject undertaken, at a point in time. School reporting processes are clear and transparent for parents/carers, so they understand:
- the learning expectations for the student
- the student’s achievement against expected standards
- how well the student is engaging with the expected learning
- how the student may be able to improve
Reporting is based on evidence. Reports reflect:
- judgments about the quality of student learning, based on evidence collected during the reporting period
- the student’s most consistent level of achievement with consideration to more recent evidence.
Kind Regards
Jodie Findlay

Who is TUFF enough?
TUFF CURRA - The Sunshine Coast's first and best schools obstacle course fundraiser is back for it's 11th year. In the previous decade of fun and excitement, we have raised close to $150,000 to benefit the school.
Previous funding with the help of a grant gained by our leaders is going towards a new Year 1-2 playground and a half basketball court with handball courts in the Year 5-6 area. This should be complete in the 2nd half of the year and ensure all students benefit from it either this year or in a future year.
When? Friday June 21 2024 | The last day of Term 2
What? Raising money for our school.
$10 earns you a prize | $20 earns the Go Green option, plant a tree or coral!
All students that raise at least $20 will go in the draw to slime a teacher!
The event is free to attend but fundraising is encouraged as each student will have lots of fun at the event whilst getting turned into a rainbow with colour powder. Each student also receives a free headband and sunglasses!
Below are some photos from last years event. How TUFF are you?

BOOK CLUB - Issue 4 | Due Friday 24 May 2024
Currimundi State School participates in Scholastic Book Club. There are 8 issues per year (2 per term).
Issue 4 will be sent home this week.
In here you’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).
The Book Club LOOP platform for parents/carers allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at Scholastic LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Online Orders Only. No Cash Orders
NB: Please do not sent your orders to school.
Every book sold through Book Club earns free books and resources for our library for our staff and students to enjoy!

YMCA OSHC NEWS
May has been a very exciting month for Currimundi YMCA.
With a huge delivery of new toys and equipment there was plenty of new opportunities for the kids to explore new, and even some old, interests.
Starting in the quiet room we have had heaps of fun with sensory sand, glue, paints and textured materials as we made 3D portraits, sand pictures and some beautiful portraits of our favourite things.
As the month continued on, we started brainstorm challenges for those who were up for the challenge. Chess and handball have seemingly circled back becoming wildly popular amongst the children. These two activities have melded their way into our day-to-day program with the kids constantly wanting to improve their skills and challenge new friends.
Another activity that has come back after sitting on the sidelines for a while is cricket! The children have loved getting back into the batting cages and on the field to show off their strong swings making their friends run far and wide to chase the ball.
With some new news: during the next few weeks we will start to implement some new activities into the program that we have not yet seen at OSHC. These will include:
- hockey,
- music,
- volleyball,
- robotics
- and more.
Hockey has already been a huge hit with children of all grades and we are hoping with more interest these will be turned into weekly clubs in Term 3.
What a great time to be a YMCA superstar!

Thank you, The Y Staff.
YMCA Mission
To provide opportunities for children to grow in body, mind and spirit-
underpinned by our values

About the Workshop:
Inclusion in the regular local school of children with disability has been possible for decades. It is a human right; supported by evidence and supported by Queensland’s Inclusive Education policy. But achieving inclusion for all children is still not simple and straightforward! The role of a parent in working with their child’s school for good inclusion is crucial.
This workshop will cover:
- Knowing your child’s gifts and setting a vision for inclusion success
- Embracing your role as an advocate
- What authentic inclusion in the regular class looks like,
- Education laws, policies and supports.
- Speaking positively and confidently to work collaboratively with the school.
- Advocacy tips to stay strong and effective.
This free face-to-face workshop will be delivered by CRU facilitators passionate about inclusive education and experienced in advocating for inclusion.
Who should attend?
Parents and carers of school-aged children (Prep to Year 12) with disability. Parents and carers of younger children who are starting to think about/ prepare for the school years are also encouraged to attend. It is never too early to start planning for inclusion.
