PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

I extend a warm welcome to all our new CURRA families who have joined us this term as well as our returning CURRA families. The halfway point of the school year seems to have come around so quickly and here we are, now looking forward to the second half of the year.
As always at Currimundi State School there’s lots happening this term, including;
The reveal of our 2025 Musical choice, Outdoor Movie Night P&C fundraiser, Surf Life Saving excellence program (before school with Mr Chamberlain), year 5 & 6 Interschool sport, School Beach Carnival, Book Week celebrations, 100 days of Prep celebrations as well as lots of additional year level excursions and incursions happening.
Parent teacher Interviews – Unpacking the report card
As part of our school’s commitment to effective reporting, in term 3 we offer the opportunity for parents and teachers to meet to ‘Unpack the Report Card’.
This encompasses:
- Clarifying the ‘Report Card’ results and comments.
- Allowing teachers and parents to discuss the achievements in a partnership.
- Celebrating the learner’s results.
- Gathering important information about ‘next steps’ for individual students e.g., set new directions for learning.
We encourage all parents/carers to attend our parent teacher interviews.

2024 School Opinion Survey
The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted 22 July to 16 August 2024. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5,6,8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve. An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family after next week. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2024.
Please check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone. Keep an eye out for yours!
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. Please contact the office to arrange.
What’s going on around the school?
- The new Year 1 and 2 playground will commence soon. Unfortunately, delays have occurred because of wet weather and required soil testing.
- You will also notice classroom blocks getting a wonderful facelift with new guttering and paint jobs
- In our senior playground work has started on a new basketball key and handball courts
- Pat and Pete are doing a great job mulching and tidying up our gardens and grounds.

Welcome back to all our CURRA staff, students, and parents/carers! I hope you had a wonderful break and are feeling refreshed for the term ahead.
Special Welcome to New Families
I’d like to extend a special welcome to our new families. We have several new students joining our school this term, and I look forward to seeing them learn and make friends as they become part of our Currimundi school community.
Attendance
Attendance and punctuality are vital for students' success. Coming to school every day and on time is essential for optimal learning and engagement. Regular attendance ensures that students don't miss out on valuable instruction and the opportunity to actively participate in classroom activities. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child's regular attendance and punctuality.
Uniforms
It's always lovely to walk around the school and see students in full uniform. I would like to kindly remind students to wear the complete school uniform, including short white socks and black shoes. The school uniform fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and equality among students. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that your child comes to school dressed appropriately. Please take a moment to review our Student Dress Code, which can also be found on our website.
Prep - Year 02 TMR Road Safely visit
On Wednesday, three lovely ladies from the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) visited our school to deliver important messages about using school crossings safely. I was very proud when they shared that in all three sessions, they were blown away by how amazing and knowledgeable our CURRA Kids were.

👴👵🎉 Celebrating 100 Days of Prep! 👴👵✨
This Friday, our Prep students will achieve a significant milestone by completing their first 100 days of school. To commemorate this achievement, they are invited to come dressed as adorable elderly individuals

Year 02 Excursion
On Monday 22 July 2024, our Year 02 students will embark on an exciting field trip to Caboolture Historical Village to explore the past and see how things have changed. It's a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about history firsthand.
Prep 2025
Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers. The first step is to determine when your child can commence. Use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep. Simply select your child's month and year of birth.
If you have a child starting Prep in 2025, please notify the office as we are now taking enrolments.
Pre-Prep Transition Program
We have a busy term ahead with a few opportunities for Pre-Preps to come along and join in some of our activities.
I have already commenced conducting regular school tours for families interested in enrolling or learning more about what our friendly little school by the beach can offer their child. It's been a pleasure to meet many of our future families, and I'm looking forward to the next two tours scheduled for this term. I am eager to meet all prospective parents/carers. Bookings are now open.

Let's work together to support our students in achieving their best during this busy term. Your cooperation and understanding are invaluable in fostering an environment where every child can thrive.
Kind Regards

Welcome Back to a busy Term 3!
Here’s hoping you had a fun and restful break, despite the rainy weather in the second week.
Across Years 0 3- 06 we have a jam-packed term. In week 8 on 29 August, we have our annual BEACH CARNIVAL. We encourage parents to come along to this fabulous day of beach activities.
Year 03 are settling well into their role in the middle section of the school. I have been blown away with their responsible attitude and the level of commitment that they applied to their leaning in Semester One.
Year 04 celebrated the end of their Mission SOS unit with a sharing afternoon at the end of last term that was well attended by other classes and the parent/carer of Year 04. I know I learned new facts about sea creatures when viewing their PowerPoints that day. This week they launched into Time Quest and had secret agent testing on Monday to see if they were worthy! In week 7 the students go back in time to St Helena Island for a fully Immersive experience. Consent with details was sent home yesterday and the full day excursion has a cost of $60.
Year 05 student leadership process begins at the end of the term and is finalised in Term 4 before we finish the year.
Year 05 and 06 have interschool sport and Surf Lifesaving during this term. Year 06 camp is this term and year 05 camp is early next term. Below are some important dates for years 05 and 06. This information has also been emailed along with other information to parents/carers on Wednesday 10 July. Please check your junk folder if you did not see it yesterday.

Learning to Read
Learning to read is a process that needs step-by-step teaching and plenty of practise at school and at home. Unlike walking or talking, reading is not a skill that we learn naturally — everyone needs to be taught how to read.

Our Reading Commitment
In October 2023, Queensland announced a new Reading Commitment to teach reading consistently using an evidence-informed approach. This approach to reading has been shown as the most effective and efficient way to teach all students to read. Updates to the Australian Curriculum closely align with this reading research and present a unique opportunity for Queensland to refine how we teach reading.
Please see the Queensland's Reading Commitment Parent and Community Brochure for more information about Reading Through the Australian Curriculum.

Prep – Year 02 Sports Day
On Thursday, 13 June our Prep – Year 02 students came together to celebrate our annual Sports Day! The event was a huge success, with every student participating in a variety of rotational activities and sprint races. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the sprint races. Students competed against their classmates running their fastest – the energy was electric. Our young athletes cheered each other on and celebrated their own success. A huge thanks to the P&C and parent/carers volunteers who did wonderful job organising the BBQ.

TUFF CURRA

How TUFF are we?!
On Friday 21 June our 12th annual TUFF CURRA event was held on the oval. There were 4 sessions, a lap for pre-school, then hour sessions for P-1, 2-3 and 4-6.
Everyone looked great in their gear with coloured powder. Every student showed how TUFF they were on the many obstacles and inflatables. It was a fantastic way to finish the semester off.
Our final fundraising figure was;

This gives us about $21,500 profit. The fundraising company takes a percentage for the prizes, online support, coloured powder, inflatables and 2 staff members amongst other things.
A big thank you to everyone who got involved with the event. I look forward to distributing the prizes when they arrive as rewards for everyone's efforts.
Here are some photos from an amazing day proving that our little school by the beach is unique in more ways than its proximity to the ocean.

YMCA OSHC NEWS

Our first week of the school holidays were a bundle of fun. We had an excursion to HQ Zoo which all the children thoroughly enjoyed! They loved learning all about the different animals and where they were from. The highlight of the day, just so happened to be at the beginning when we met the White-Cheeked Gibbon and the Spider Monkeys as they danced about in front of us, swinging from branch to branch and playing with their toy balls. Though we were all quite tired from a massive day out, the children expressed how much they would like to go back and re-visit some of these animals. We also did lots of art and craft; sensory activities and ended the week with our pyjama Party.
We didn’t slow down the pace in week 2 and participated in a variety of creative and active activities. The highlight was our Vacation Care Disco and The Robotic Lego Incursion. Getting ready for the Olympic Games we had our own mini Olympics with the children participating in races, shot put, long jump and group games. The children also participated in cooking experiences, puppet shows, Karaoke and dance performances. Overall, we easily passed the time having fun.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Term 3.

Thank you, The Y Staff.
