PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

Over the past 2 years the Currimundi State School P&C and school leaders have prioritised the safety of Curra kids through the advocating for improved road safety around our school by meeting with all levels of government and relevant departments to be clear about our concerns about the safety of our Curra kids and the wider community.
This year we were successful in winning a grant to implement bike safety sessions with 3 year levels.
This has required many meetings and communications from the P&C, Transport and Pedestrian Safety Officer, Dani and school leadership in addition to gathering traffic incident data over the period of time. Congratulations to this core group on behalf of all our Currimundi families.
This week our local councillor Tim Burns has informed me about some initial improvements to the pedestrian crossing areas near the Roundabout on Cooroy and Buderim St. Councillor Burns has informed me that this is not the end of the work, but some simple immediate upgrades to better formalise some of the focus areas.
There will be 2 measures undertaken over the next couple weeks –
1. Installation of new yellow ground surface indicators and also the replacement of existing ground surface indicators with new yellow ones. The first image highlights these. This can in the first instance make a more visible crossing point for pedestrians and motorists.

2. Speed Cushions will be installed in the slip lane with the aim of reducing the speed of vehicles through the slip lane. The second image displays the location of these.

It is anticipated that both these works will be delivered in the next 2-4 weeks pending weather.
Facilities update
If you’ve been at school this week you will have noticed that our new Yr 01 &
02 and the new senior basketball key and handball courts are completed and being enjoyed by our students. See the deputy principal sections to see more.

End of Week 5!
We're halfway through Term 3, and everyone is doing a fantastic job. The feedback from teachers and parents/carers has been overwhelmingly positive. We sincerely appreciate all your efforts.
Happy Principals' Day to Ms Pass!
Last Friday, 2 August 2024 we celebrated Australian Primary Principal’s Day🍎. Thank you, Ms Pass, for empowering our students and staff to thrive and for making our little school by the beach a wonderful place to learn and grow!

Book Week
Dust off your imagination and get ready for the upcoming Book Week celebrations! This year's theme, "Reading is Magic," encapsulates the very essence of our journey through literature. The much-anticipated event invites all students to step into the shoes of their favourite book characters.

Prep 2025

Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers.
Thank you to all future Prep families who have already submitted their enrolment forms for 2025.
If you have a child starting Prep in 2025, please notify the office as we are taking enrolments and preparing for our Term 4 transitions and interviews.
I have already conducted many school tours showcasing what our friendly little school by the beach. It's been a pleasure to meet many of our future families, and I'm looking forward to the next two tours scheduled for this term. I am eager to meet all prospective parents/carers. Bookings are now open.
Next term we will commence our Prep Interviews. Future 2025 families will receive a link next week inviting them to book a time to meet with me or one of our Prep teachers.
If you are not sure if your child can start Prep in 2025, use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep. Simply select your child's month and year of birth.

Playground
🌟 Our new playground is officially open! 🎉 This week, our Year 01 and Year 02 students had a blast exploring the exciting new equipment. It's been wonderful to see their smiles and hear their laughter as they enjoy this fantastic addition to our school. We hope this playground becomes a space where our students can play, learn, and make lasting memories together.
Uniforms
It's always lovely to walk around the school and see students in full uniform. I would like to kindly remind students to wear the complete school uniform, including short white socks and black shoes. The school uniform fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and equality among students. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that your child comes to school dressed appropriately. Please take a moment to review our Student Dress Code, which can also be found on our website.
As we navigate this busy term together, let's continue to create a supportive and nurturing environment for our students. Your dedication and partnership play a crucial role in helping every child reach their full potential. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community.
Let's work together to support our students in achieving their best during this busy term. Your cooperation and understanding are invaluable in fostering an environment where every child can thrive.
Kind Regards

Interschool Sports underway!
Last Friday saw the beginning of our 4 Interschool Sports weeks for Year 05 and 06.
The kids were very excited and the weather really turned it on for us! When visiting Ms Pass and I were very proud of the sportsmanship, behaviour and participation of our senior students. We have 3 more weeks to go, Friday 9 August, 23 August and 6 September. Good luck to all of our CURRIMUNDI OSPREYS!
DISTRICT ATHLETICS POSTPONED

The Year 05 and 06 students have had the pleasure of using the new basketball/netball key and handball courts at lunchtimes. A very welcome new addition to playtime activities, situated perfectly beside our oval grandstand. Currimundi State School participates in Scholastic Book Club. There are 8 issues per year (2 per term).
Issue 6 will be sent home this week or early next week!
In here you’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).
The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
The school no longer accepts payments using cash.
Every book sold through Book Club earns free books and resources for our library for our staff and students to enjoy!
Online Orders Only. No Cash Orders
Due by Friday 16th August 2024

YMCA OSHC NEWS

So much has been happening over here in the YMCA since our last update! Our boxing, music, hockey and yoga clubs are up and running for all to enjoy with more to come in the later term. The children have really excelled participating in activities which they hold interest for, further developing their little identities. The quiet room has held some buzz in the past few weeks with new activities being thought up by both staff and children. Our recent favourites; picture frames, stress balls and splatter painting. On the oval we have had our usual soccer, cricket and footy but have since added some new group games to challenge the children. The most memorable would have to be the educator vs student tug of war in BSC. Additionally, we have begun to integrate Indigenous activities into our program as we are working towards our RAP. The children have enjoyed getting to learn new games that they can play with friends.
This term, we have really wanted to work on our YMCA community as a whole, trying to improve large-group participation and encouraging new friendships within the service. We have seen drastic improvement to this area, and have noticed new friendships formed through chess, dance and skipping. Our older children have done a fantastic job leading activities and teaching our younger students’ new things – I would like to especially congratulate Benjamin who has been our first Junior Leader to be awarded his badge! While we work on our emotional regulation, identities, and friendships, it is important to thank those who do a fantastic job looking after us every day. We celebrated OSHC Educators Day on the 31st of July surprising our team with some small gifts to acknowledge all the work that they do. We can’t wait to catch you up on what happens next.

Thank you, The Y Staff.
