PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jill Pass

This being the final newsletter for term 2 tells us that we must be very near the half way point of the school year.
Our teachers and students have been very busy over the last few weeks teaching, learning and best preparing and supporting all students for assessments. Teachers have been furiously marking student work, catching up with students who have been absent and writing report cards.
Student report cards will be emailed out in the last week of term on Tuesday 20 June 2023, so please make sure you check your emails and especially the spam/junk email folders for this email. All families will also receive a second email detailing our “Unpacking the Report Card” parent teacher interviews which will occur for most classes in week 2 of next term.
Congratulations to all the staff and students who are well into production of this year’s musical, Shrek Jnr, with practices being scheduled throughout the school week, during and after school and on weekends. We know the performances will be amazing. Tickets go on sale next week.
I wish all our families a safe and enjoyable school holidays commencing next week and look forward to seeing everyone return for an eventful and exciting term 3.
Yours in Education

To update your email address, as well as any other details, you can do as follows:
- QParent families: log on and update accurately. Click on your name & edit.

- Non QParent Families: email admin@currimundiss.eq.edu.au with your updated details.
Often they end up in the junk folder. If you haven't received the report by the end of next week, please email admin@currimundiss.eq.edu.au and we will re-send.
Junior Sports Day - Wednesday 21 June 2023
We are hopeful that the weather will not rain out next week’s Junior Sports Day.
Our Prep, Year 01 and Year 02 students will be participating in their events from 9am until approximately 11.00am on Wednesday 21 June. Family and friends are welcome to come along and watch.
We hope you can join us on this fun day!

Head Lice - You can help stop the spread!
Head lice are common in children (particularly between the ages of 3 and 11 years) and have nothing to do with personal hygiene or cleanliness. While head lice don’t carry disease, their bites can cause itching and skin irritation. To reduce your child’s risk of getting head lice you can ensure long hair is tied up, discourage the sharing of brushes and combs, and minimise head-to-head contact with others. Remember, anyone can get head lice. These critters have no preferences for hair colour or type, age or ethnicity. Check out this fact sheet for more information.
Prep 2024 - Pre-Prep Transition Program

Thank you to all future Prep families who have already submitted their enrolment forms for 2024.
Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers. The first step is to determine when your child can commence their Prep year by visiting the Department of Education’s Prep-ready calculator
https://www.earlyyearscount.earlychildhood.qld.gov.au/kindy-calculator/
If you have a child starting Prep in 2024, please notify the office as we are now taking enrolments.
Prep Tours
Throughout the term I had the privilege of showcasing our friendly little school by the beach to many of our prospective 2024 Preps and their families. These tours will continue next term for families wanting to enrol or wanting to know more about what Currimundi has to offer.
I am looking forward to meeting many more prospective parents/carers. If you would like to schedule a tour, kindly use the provided link to book your spot online. https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/wux26

If we support our children to have a positive approach to learning, to be resilient and give things a go they will flourish!
Kind Regard

Talented Maths Challenge Day at Caloundra | Currimundi Second in the School Challenge!
On Thursday 01 June 2023, five of our Year 06 students attended the Caloundra High School 2023 Talented Maths Challenge Day.
Marlon, Isabelle, Zoe, Hudson and Ryan started the day as a school team and across the day each school group was moved into mixed school groups to solve a variety of Maths Challenges. Mrs Pyke accompanied them to the challenge and describes the events of the day below.
The first rotation involved geometry activities and our students wasted no time deciding who was going to be involved in each activity.
In one activity, they needed to measure different 3D shapes that were placed on the main table for all to use. The students had to measure the 3D shapes without lifting them. They then had to take their measurements back to their table to make "sleeping bags" for these shapes. These sleeping bags had to be a snug fit!
The other activity was a tangrams activity where they had to work together to dissect the angels to replicate the patterns that they were given. This really tested them and honestly my brain hurt after this as well.
Problem solving activities were the flavour of the day! Students were given instructions to use linking cubes to make seven different patterns. These cubes then need to be standing up, not lying down.
They all did amazing well, hence we came second in the SCHOOL CHALLENGE! An amazing result considering the were up against a lot of high school students!

Semester One Report Cards
As we approach the end of Semester 1, teachers are very busy finalising assessment. At the same time, our students are very busy completing assessment items and demonstrating how much they have learned this year so far. At Currimundi State School, our teachers are highly capable, dedicated and hardworking. We certainly appreciate the great work they do in classrooms every day and how hard they are working right now preparing report cards.
Please take the time to thank your child‘s/children‘s class teacher/s this week for the great work they have done throughout this semester to ensure students are actively engaged and learning to their fullest potential.
What do the A-E standards really mean?
Did you realise that a ‘C’ on a report means that your child is achieving AT year level expectations? A ‘B‘ or an
‘A‘ indicates deep knowledge and understanding of the subject and content and an ability to apply their learning flexibly in new or less familiar contexts.

Correct Email Address
We will be emailing report cards directly to parents/carers who have an email address registered with us in the system.
Semester 1 report cards will be emailed to parents/carers on Tuesday 20 June 2023.
The reporting database will automatically email the reports based on the information provided to our office staff.
Reports Cards are automatically uploaded to QParents and can be retrieved at anytime to view and compare with previous years with your children.
To update your email address, as well as any other details, you can do as follow:
- QParent families: log on and update accurately. Click on your name & edit.

- Non QParent Famlies: email admin@currimundiss.eq.edu.au with your updated details
Should you not receive your Semester 1 report card, log in to your QParents or check your junk folder.

Parent Teacher Interviews Term 3
As part of our school’s commitment to effective reporting, we are also offering the opportunity for parents/carers and teachers to meet to ‘Unpack the Report Card’.
Details and booking information will be sent with your child’s report card. Please read the letter carefully as it will let you know when bookings will open and how to book.
Kind Regards
Jodie Findlay

FESTIVAL OF BOOKS | Monday 19 – Thursday 22 June 2023
As the library continues to update our collection, we have many older books that are no longer being used.
What can we do with these? The Innovation Team has decided that everything old can be used again!
Get ready for …
The Festival of Books.
All these old and soon to be discarded books will be available to purchase during our “FESTIVAL OF BOOKS” Monday 19 – Thursday 22 June 2023.
Many of these books are old (not that there is anything wrong with OLD), but you will find some are in good condition (these are the books that we have numerous copies of).
We will accept a coin donation for these books and use the money to purchase new resources for the library.
Help us create a sustainable future and stop all our books from ending up in a recycling bin or landfill.

Digital Library – Education Queensland-Sora App
All State School students access to a digital library which contains over 75,000 eBooks and audiobooks.
The e-library can be accessed by visiting the Sora website, or downloading the free Sora app on a mobile device, then searching for the school 'Education Queensland' and logging in using their MIS ID.
Happy reading!
