PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

Welcome back for Term 4. I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday.
Term 4 is always a busy term and we ask parents/carers to keep a close eye on the Facebook page, newsletters and emails so you can be well prepared for all events and to prepare for 2025. We also welcome our new families – we've had a few new students start this term. We hope you settle soon and enjoy being part of the wonderful Currimundi community.
Term 4 is also a longer term than the norm. Instead of the normal 10 weeks there are 11 weeks this term. All assessment and reporting will be completed by week 10 so in the final week of school we will be maintain all behaviour expectations and school hours but we will be using this extra week to apply an enhanced focus on student engagement, cultural and wellbeing activities through alternative programs.
Attendance
Being at school every day is one of the best strategies in supporting students to do their very best. Every day teachers are introducing new work, revising and consolidating previous concepts and gathering evidence for reporting. With irregular attendance comes disengagement from school and learning becomes much harder. Your help in ensuring that your children are well rested, organised and ready for school every day is invaluable.
School Uniform
Pride in Our School Expectations for uniform compliance and behaviour are more important than ever- right until the final day of the school year. Wearing the Currimundi uniform with pride is a part of the whole experience that helps our students strive to do their best in all aspects of being a great student. I thank you in advance for being a part of that consistent messaging. Please note bike pants are not part of our approved uniform code. At Currimundi State School we are Caring, Respectful, Responsible and Active learners.
2025 Class Formation Process
We are soon to begin the process of class formation for the next academic year. This process is always based on predicted student numbers with all provisional student placements to classes confirmed on the eighth day of the new school year. We take this process very seriously; the benefits of making the right, evidence-based decisions can have long and lasting positive impacts on learning, social development and student well-being.
To assist us in this process, families are invited to submit the ‘Student Placement form’, link below, which provides the opportunity to communicate educational reasons that should be considered when forming classes. All forms must be returned to the office by Friday 11 October 2024.
Delayed Return or not returning to school in 2025?
Please contact the office staff ( Administration@currimundiss.eq.edu.au) if your child will not be present from the beginning of the school year e.g., extended holiday, not returning to Currimundi State School.
It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers and other staff that we are entitled to.
Yours in education

Monday 07 October is a PUBLIC HOLIDAY!

Welcome back to Term 4
Welcome back to the final term of the school year! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating Spring break, spending time with family and friends, soaking up some sunshine, and creating wonderful memories. We are excited to kick off Term 4, which promises to be full of learning, fun, and special events for our CURRA Kids.
A Fresh Term
As we dive into this action-packed term, I want to encourage all our students to embrace this fresh start. This is a great opportunity to set new goals, stay curious, and make the most of every learning experience. I know our incredible teachers are eager to continue supporting each child’s journey as they ride their waves to success.
Swimming and Surf Life Saving Lessons
One of the highlights this term for our Prep to Year 02 students will be the commencement of swimming lessons (Prep – Year 04) and Surf Life Saving sessions. These vital programs teach essential water safety skills while keeping the kids active and engaged. Please ensure your child brings their swimming gear, including a towel, hat, and water bottle, on the designated days. We’re grateful to our dedicated staff and community partners for making these important lessons possible.
Looking Ahead to Arts Week
In addition to swimming and Surf Life Saving, we have another exciting event to look forward to: Arts Week! This vibrant week of activities will celebrate creativity and self-expression through visual arts, music, dance, and drama. Arts Week is always a highlight, and we can’t wait to see our students' talents shine. More information will be shared soon, so keep an eye out for event details.
If you haven’t already paid the invoice of $15.00 per student for the Arts Week activities, this needs to be paid by Monday 14 October.
Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers
The gift of time is precious, and volunteers are truly generous when it comes to investing this valuable resource in our school and with our students. Each year, Currimundi State School takes a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to all our wonderful volunteers.
If you have assisted in any facet of school life, from excursions and events to the tuck shop and classroom, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude. In appreciation of your unwavering support throughout the year, Currimundi State School cordially invites you to join us for an afternoon tea and a special parade to say 'Thank You' for everything you do for our students.
We are incredibly fortunate to have so many members of our community willing to generously give their time to support our school. Thank you!

Quokka Reading – Volunteers needed
A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who continue to support our 'Reading with Quokkas' program. Your time and dedication make a world of difference in the lives of our students, particularly our Year 02 readers. We are still seeking a few more volunteers for this term, so if you're able to spare an hour on Friday mornings, we would love to have you join us!

Prep 2025

GET SET FOR PREP IN 2025
Starting school is an important milestone in a child's life, with many children revelling in the changes and challenges during their transition to school.
It has been fantastic to meet lots of the friendly faces who are coming to join us at Currimundi for Prep next year throughout our tours and transition days.
I am looking forward to seeing them all again during our next Get Set for Prep transition activity for the year on Thursday 24 October 9:00am - 10:30am.

If you know of anyone who intends on enrolling for Prep at our school, please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible as it is important that we have as much information as possible to manage our enrolments going into 2025.
Supporting a successful transition to school
There are many ways we can support our children to have a great start to school — from using kindy transition statements to sharing practical ideas about starting school.
Education Queensland’s Transition to school campaign raises awareness among families about the transition statement and how it supports a great start to school. Short videos will feature on digital and social media channels, and articles, tips and downloadable resources for parents/carers can be found on The Early Years Count website.
Let’s make this final term one to remember, filled with learning, laughter, and growth!
Kind Regards

Welcome back to Term 4 for 2025. Hoping that everyone had a good break and are ready for this final 11 week term. The term is packed with many events including swimming, Incursions, Arts Week, our very own Curra’s Got Talent event and of course the graduation of our Year 06 students. Keep your eye out for Facebook posts and Calendar updates regarding upcoming events.
Some highlights for Yrs 03 - 06 include:
- Year 03 - TRIBALINK Bus, which visited our school on Thursday 03 October. A very interactive and hands on incursion.

2024 ARTS WEEK
Monday, 21 October to Friday, 25 October. Arts Week is an annual, much-loved event at Currimundi State School, offering students an exciting opportunity to engage in activities that celebrate the visual and performing arts. The 2024 Arts Week will kick off with a dynamic performance by Dion Drummond, who will captivate students with high-energy tales, language, and artefacts from his Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal Indigenous heritage. Through engaging songs and dances, Dion not only shares the rich traditions of his cultures but also highlights important values such as respect, all delivered with his signature humour and energy.
CURRA’S GOT TALENT
There are many students participating and a final program is currently being formed. At this stage it looks like class acts will be Monday 21 October in week 4 during parade and all individual acts will be held Friday 25 October in two sections across the day, Prep - 02 and Yrs 04 - 06. An update to confirm will be available soon.
BEHAVIOUR
Maintaining expected behaviour remains a focus for Term 4. Our fortnightly rule focus continues and daily expectations continue right up until the final day of school. We have some great behaviour celebrations planned for the end of term including our high flyers free lunch and a “wet day” at the end of the year.

CURRICULUM NEWS | MRS JODIE FINDLAY

Welcome back to term 4!
Supporting the wellbeing of children and young people is an important part of what students, families and schools do every day. It is especially important to ensure that children and young people’s wellbeing is looked after in times of uncertainty and stress. Supporting wellbeing not only helps children and young people to feel happier and less anxious, it will also help them to have positive interactions with the rest of the family and to learn more effectively.
The activities in the attached workbook are designed to give students themselves, as well as parents and carers suggested ways of supporting your students' wellbeing.
The theme for Queensland Mental Health Week 2024 is "Connect for mental health", emphasising the proactive measures we can adopt to nurture and support positive mental health and wellbeing for ourselves and our communities.

- Connect with self: Take care of yourself, do something you enjoy, make healthy choices, and seek help when needed.
- Connect with community: Create supportive and inclusive environments, look after one another, and connect with culture. Show kindness and initiate connection with those who are struggling.
- Connect with others: Foster relationships with loved ones, friends, family, and mob. Spend time with others and make meaningful connections.
- Connect with nature: Take a break from technology, spend time outdoors, embrace mindfulness, and take care of the world around you.

At Currimundi State School, students and teachers use the Grow Your Mind program to help facilitate mental Health. Grow Your Mind believes that good mental health is when we can cope with the stressors of our daily lives, participate in loving relationships, contribute to our community, and work towards our goals. Everyone has mental health. And we can all benefit from looking after our own mental health and the mental health of our communities.

Currimundi State School participates in Scholastic Book Club. There are 8 issues per year (2 per term).
Issue 7 will be sent home this week!
In here you’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).
The Book Club LOOP platform for parents/carers allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
The school no longer accepts payments using cash.

YMCA OSHC NEWS

With some very exciting activities planned, both children and staff were keen to start off our spring holidays. Starting off with recycling week celebrations, our children with green thumbs helped Louella and Dale in the garden setting up our new worm farm and making sure the garden beds were tidy ready for our flowers to bloom. Following our day in the sun, we spent Tuesday indoors but the fun did not stop! We had our friends from Aussie Inflatables bring in a jumping castle with a ginormous slide for the children to enjoy. By home time, we were all exhausted and ready for bed – a great day for parents/carers, I’m sure! Survivor day followed with many challenges based off the popular TV show. The kids were faced with a bath of slime as they had to scourer their way through picking up bags and insects along the way. Taste buds were challenged with some sweet and sour foods before we all created our very own immunity necklaces for our hard efforts. Ice age day saw us travelling back 2.5 million years to break through the ice in search for dinosaur treasures. Wrapping up our week we had another exciting visit, this time from our friend at Ocean Life Education. She bought in lots of fun sea animals for us to look at, and even touch! The children had plenty of fun researching their favourite sea animals and what they can do to protect them from the shore.
Our second week, arguably more exciting than the last. We ventured to Kawana cinemas to watch ‘The Wild Robot,’ got dressed up in zorb balls bouncing around the oval, had a hula and limbo party for Lilo and Stitch Day and had fun with food, baking cakes and creating animals with our vegetables. The top hit of the holidays however, ‘yes day’ where children were in charge choosing all our activities for the day. The children were buzzing with excitement as they got to play their favourite games and do some special arts and craft activities.
Our OSHC services will be closed from Monday 23 December 2024 to Sunday 5January 2025. All OSHC services will resume operations on Monday 6January 2025.

Thank you, The Y Staff.
