PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

I hope our Currimundi families were able to catch one of the activities from a fabulous Arts week, last week. A special shout out goes to all staff members but in particular; Alison Schulz, Belinda Hamilton, Kirsty Cowley, Jacinta Surridge and Kerry Taylor without whose hard work, professionalism and sacrifice of many hours of their time including lunch hours this would not have happened. Without the dedicated staff to drive our special events the many special Currimundi events simply would not be possible.
As we approach the end of the school year it is more important than ever to maintain good school routine including uniform and behaviour expectations.
Before school expectations
School commences at 8:40am with music signalling for students to move to classrooms at 8:35am.
Before school many of our students participate in before school activities that are supervised like concert band practice, tennis and more. Students are not to be at school before 8:15am unless supervised. Students arriving before the 8:35am music know that they are to sit down in their year level area after placing their bags in the bag racks. Staff and myself have reiterated this message in the past week to all students.
Road Safety
The safety of our Curra kids coming to and from school has been a priority project for our P&C for a number of years. Remember to slow down and watch out for kids, especially around buses, parked cars, and at busy school drop off zones. Avoid double parking or stopping on yellow lines to let children out of the car. Transport Compliance officers will be out and about on random days during our busy drop off and pick up times.

Additional area for staff carpark completed
The new compacted gravel area near the office will serve as an additional staff carpark and is an attempt to alleviate some of the traffic congestion at pick up and drop off times around the school. Please remember it is NOT a parent carpark or turn around area.

Term 4 week 11
I would like to update you about the schedule for Week 11 this term - the final week of the school year (normally terms are 10 weeks in length). During Week 11 (Monday 9 December – Friday 13 December) our school will be providing supervision for students. This means students will not necessarily have their classroom teacher or be in their regular classroom.
Please note that report cards, Year 6 Graduation ceremony and all other academic activities will be finalised in week 10.
Week 11 is an opportunity for students to engage in various supervised activities and reflect on the past year while spending time with their peers in a relaxed and supportive environment. Don’t forget to date claim the Junior and Senior Christmas concerts on Thursday 12 Dec. first session in week 11. The Christmas concerts will be followed by class break up parties.
We will understand if you choose to start your holiday plans early, however we would ask you to inform the office if this will be the case.
We appreciate your support throughout the year and look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students in the final days of the term.
Please continue to check the school website calendar and Qparent calendars for upcoming events.
CLICK HERE for more information on Queensland school holidays.

Remembrance Day - 11 November
RSL Queensland’s Draw to Remember initiative is a creative Remembrance Day learning and commemoration activity for primary school students. The activity allows children to learn the significance of 11 November and express their learnings or personal Remembrance Day connections through chalk art. The majority of classes will be joining in this activity and the whole school community will be able to enjoy the children’s art works that will be on the entrance paths to our school.
RSL media will be capturing the student’s artwork on the day.
Delayed Return or not returning to school in 2025?
Please contact the office staff ( Administration@currimundiss.eq.edu.au) if your child will not be present from the beginning of the school year e.g., extended holiday, not returning to Currimundi State School.
It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers and other staff that we are entitled to.
Yours in education

Deputy Principal | Prep – Yr 02 | Mrs Tina Houtsma

Welcome to Week 5 of Term 4! It’s hard to believe we are almost halfway through the term, with so many memorable moments behind us and more still to come. Here’s a quick recap of the exciting events we've enjoyed and a look at what's just around the corner!
A Fresh Term
As we dive into this action-packed term, I want to encourage all our students to embrace this fresh start. This is a great opportunity to set new goals, stay curious, and make the most of every learning experience. I know our incredible teachers are eager to continue supporting each child’s journey as they ride their waves to success.
Swimming Lessons Wrap-Up
Our Prep to Year 04 students have now completed their swimming lessons, and we couldn’t be prouder of their enthusiasm and fantastic behaviour at the pool. The students embraced each lesson, growing their water skills and confidence. A big thank you to our staff, Mr Chamberlain and the team at Caloundra Aquatic Centre for supporting this important program.
Celebrating Arts Week
Arts Week was a huge success! The performances by Dion Drummond captivated the students, and everyone loved exploring their creativity in the Raw Art lessons. A standout was our Talent Quest, where our courageous Prep to Year 03 students took to the stage, showcasing their unique talents. It was wonderful to see so many young performers shine, and the applause from their peers was heart-warming!
Surf Life Saving Program Begins
Next week, we are excited to begin our Surf Life Saving program for the term. This valuable program will equip our students with beach safety knowledge and practical skills to stay safe around water – a vital skill for living here on the Sunshine Coast. Please remember to pack hats, water bottles, towel and togs to keep our CURRA Kids sun-safe as they learn.
Thank You to Our Amazing Volunteers
The gift of time is precious, and volunteers are truly generous when it comes to investing this valuable resource in our school and with our students. Each year, Currimundi State School takes a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to all our wonderful volunteers.
If you have assisted in any facet of school life, from excursions and events to the tuck shop and classroom, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude. In appreciation of your unwavering support throughout the year, Currimundi State School cordially invites you to join us for an afternoon tea and a special parade to say 'Thank You' for everything you do for our students.
We are incredibly fortunate to have so many members of our community willing to generously give their time to support our school. Thank you!

Christmas Concert
Don’t forget to date claim the Junior and Senior Christmas concerts on Thursday 12 December, first session (8:40 – 10:40am) in week 11. The Christmas concerts will be followed by class break up parties.

Prep 2025

GET SET FOR PREP IN 2025
We recently hosted our Get Set for Prep Open Day event, and what a fantastic day it was! It was wonderful to see so many 2025 families join us, with future CURRA Kids participating in fun activities while parents/carers had the chance to meet our staff and get a feel for the school community. These transition days play a key role in helping children prepare for the exciting journey ahead as they begin school.
Our next event is the Classroom Experience, where we invite our future Prep students to spend time in a classroom. During this session, students will complete a small activity, and our Prep teachers will share a special social story about our school to help them become familiar with their new learning environment. These activities are designed to ensure a smooth and positive transition, allowing children to feel confident and ready to take on this important milestone in their lives.
It has been a pleasure meeting so many friendly faces during our transition days and school tours, and we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming them again at our final transition event for the year on Tuesday, 19 November from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
Looking Forward
As the term progresses, there are still plenty of exciting learning and community-building activities planned. We are grateful for your continued support in making each term memorable and enriching for our students. Keep an eye out for updates on upcoming events as we head towards the end of this year’s journey together!
Let’s make this final term one to remember, filled with learning, laughter, and growth!
Kind Regards

Swimming Carnival
Two weeks ago, the Year 04 - 06 Swimming Carnival was held at Caloundra pool. The weather was beautiful, the atmosphere was competitive and participation and behaviour were top notch. Across the day the students participated in Age races in the competitive pool and participated in novelty races and cheered on their sports houses in the large pool.
BILINGA was the winning house for the day!
Below are the AGE CHAMPIONS and runner up students. Well done to everyone on the day! A great time was had by all.
Regards,

Amanda Brewer

Respectful relationships education helps shape the future of the world we live in by giving children and young people the skills, experiences and confidence to lead healthy relationships and productive lives.
Our school, like all Queensland state schools, has been implementing the Australian Curriculum since 2012. The Australian Curriculum includes respectful relationships education in Health and Physical Education (HPE). Through our HPE Programs, we aim to teach children and young people how to develop behaviours and attitudes that promote healthy, safe and respectful relationships. We further aim to foster learning about personal and social capabilities, and ethical and intercultural understandings. The Australian Curriculum is publicly available online at
Through respectful relationships education, children and young people will learn about:
- personal and social awareness, supporting students to understand themselves and others in different social situations
- respectful interactions, supporting students to understand and practise strategies for relating to and interacting with others respectfully (offline and online)
- protective behaviours, supporting students to understand and practice preventative, proactive and responsive strategies to keep themselves and others safe in offline and online environments.
- If you would like any further information about what students will be learning or how you can access information to support regular conversations about healthy relationships with your children, visit the Respectful Relationships Education Hub from the link below.
You can also explore the information available in the ‘Parents and carers’ section
For further information, please see:
Semester Two Assessment & Report Cards

As we are in the middle of term 4, teachers are very busy starting and continuing assessment. At the same time, our students are very busy completing assessment items and demonstrating how much they have learned this year so far. At Currimundi State School, our teachers are highly capable, dedicated and hardworking. We certainly appreciate the great work they do in classrooms every day and how hard they will be working to prepare report cards.
What do the A-E standards really mean?
Reporting has changed quite a lot over the years so it is important that you know what the A-E standards really mean. Did you realise that a ‘C’ on a report means that your child is achieving AT year level expectations? A ‘B‘ or an ‘A‘ indicates deep knowledge and understanding of the subject and content and an ability to apply their learning flexibly in new or less familiar contexts.

YMCA OSHC NEWS

This month, we’ve held great importance towards our sustainability practices and development of the individual interests of each child. Early October, Zoe worked with our children to create new designs for our three bins by the kitchen; red, yellow, green – for recycling, food waste and general rubbish. Over the most recent school holidays, as a team, we realised the children struggled to understand what goes in each bin. Through active conversation and art, we developed ideas of what should go in each bin, to help our younger students, using visual clues as an aid, we then painted images of rubbish items onto their correct bin. Using posters and recycling activities, we extended towards a whole new initiative where the children now independently hold conversations with friends, deciding which rubbish should go in what bin as they realise the importance this can have within the community, and for our wriggly friends in the garden who are desperate for our food scraps! Club posters have now gone up with all the activities we currently offer at YMCA. The children have been able to come and go as they please, writing their name under the selected activities they want to do while attending the current week. This has helped create new friendships also as we see like-minded children start to gravitate towards one another to extend upon their own interests, working towards a more complex sense of self. Popular activities for Curra Kids at the moment include; hockey, soccer, chess and block creations. The YMCA children opened the School Talent Quest last Friday and did a fantastic Performance!

Our OSHC services will be closed from the Monday 23December 2024 to the Sunday 5January 2025. All OSHC services will resume operations on the Monday 6January 2025.
Please do not Enroll for 2025 until we send out the new enrolment package.
Thank you, The Y Staff.
