PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

It is hard to believe that the end of the 2024 academic year is here.
Students and staff have been extremely busy finishing off the final assessments for semester 2 over the past few weeks. I commend the Currimundi staff team in their various roles, who all do their part in contributing to our hard-working team that strives to maximise the academic success and well-being of every student.
Report cards will be emailed home on Tuesday 03 December. Provisional class placement letters for years 01 to 06 2025 students will come home on Wednesday 04 December afternoon with students after their ‘Shuffle class session’ visit to their new class and if possible their new teacher.
As always class placements are provisional for the first two weeks of 2025 until student numbers are confirmed. Should there be a need to create an additional class on day 8 this will affect class placement then.
2025 SHUFFLE CLASS SESSION
On Wednesday 04 December in week 10 all Prep to year 05 classes will go to their 2025 class groupings. We have a quite a few new staff who are not available to be with us in this session so other teachers will run an activity with the class and discuss some of the activities and learning that they will be experiencing next year.
2025 Staff changes:
Beth Ore - transferred to Mooloolah State School
Jessica Hutson - transferred to Dysart State School
New staff coming in:
James Baker - coming from Edge Hill State School, Cairns
Brianna Clunes - coming from Tagai College, Torres Strait
Jenna-Lee Cue - coming from Cooktown State School
Shannon Webb - coming from Mooloolah State School
Dianna Gretton - coming from Tagai College, Torres Strait
Bec Markussen, currently our Wellbeing Officer has graduated and will become a teaching staff member in 2025 - Congratulations Bec!
Dave Larkin (Mr D) is our new Wellbeing Officer
Deputy Principal change
In 2025 Mrs Amanda Brewer will be the deputy principal for Prep to year 02 and Mrs Bettina Houtsma will be the deputy principal for years 03 to 06.
2025 STUDENT LEADERS
Our Student School Leaders for next year have been selected throughout a multi-step and at times challenging process led by Mrs Brewer. I am very much looking forward to watching them grow in 2025. We will announce the successful applicants to the whole school at the year 06 clap out parade on Monday 02 December 2024.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Please refer to the School Dress Code below when purchasing uniforms for 2025. Please note stretchy bike pants are not part of our uniform.

DELAYED RETURN OR NOT RETURNING IN 2025?
Please contact the office staff ( Administration@currimundiss.eq.edu.au) if your child will not be present from the beginning of the school year e.g., extended holiday, not returning to Currimundi State School.
It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers and other staff that we are entitled to.

CHILD’S MEDICATION TO GO HOME
Please remember to collect your child’s medication from school before the holidays from the classroom or first aid depending on where it is held. This is particularly important for emergency medications such as EpiPens.
To those students, families and staff leaving our school, I wish you all well for
the future and hope you fondly recall your time at Currimundi State School.
Yours in education

Deputy Principal | Yr 03-06 | Mrs Amanda Brewer

It is with total disbelief that we bid goodbye to out 2024 year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and carers for their support and partnership in education this year. Such an action-packed year for all students, filled with new learning experiences, friends, school events and celebrations of success!
As we enter the final weeks there have been many events in our Yr 03 - 06 sector.
Year 03 had the Tribalink bus visit and were exposed to a variety of indigenous painting techniques and artifacts. They created paintings with a group leader on the day also.
Year 04 Celebrated their Medieval Day on Wednesday. A very popular day and culminating of learning for their “Time Quest” unit. Students enjoyed dressing up and participating in a Medieval “role play” situation all day (to be honest I think the teachers enjoyed it too, especially the QUEEN!). Many activities were undertaken including designing and creating their group shield, marching and entertaining the queen with jokes.
The Year 05 Leadership process is finalised. At the beginning of Year 06 there will be a formal ceremony for students and parents/carers to attend. Badges will be presented and senior shirts usually arrive at the same time. We had a huge 51 students apply for leadership positions this year, which represents more than half the year level! We look forward to seeing these students shine next year. Our Year 06 Leaders will introduce the new leaders to the school at this Monday’s parade. (2 December) There is also an opportunity for those leaders who are available, to assist with Year 06 Graduation on Tuesday 3 December. If your child is available, it would require them to arrive by 5:25pm in their full school uniform at the hall. Mrs Jermyn will then assist them with the instructions for seating parents/carers. They will then usher people to their seats at 5:40pm and can be picked up from the front of the hall at 6:00pm. If your child can make it, please email Mrs Brewer directly by Monday 2December. (abrew6@eq.edu.au)
And lastly, Year 06 are currently doing their “last” of everything. Their last parade, their last specialist lessons, their last weeks as a class and a cohort, their last days of sitting together for lunch and being together at playtime. These last two weeks are an emotionally charged time for them. Leaving their very familiar Primary school setting and starting at a new high school setting. They spread themselves far and wide but will always have this time they shared together to reflect on. There have been many life lessons learned with us, they have grown into true CURRA Kids who are ready to move to the next phase of their lives. We wish them well and will miss them. There will be a handing over of leadership roles and a clap out for year 06 this coming Monday 2 December 1:50pm in the School Hall. You are welcome to join us for this.
GRADUATION!! How are we here already! All plans are finalised and we look forward to a formal night of celebration with our Year 06 students. Please ensure that you have provided an RSVP for Graduation by Friday 29 November when the link will close. Seats are allocated using the information from your RSVP and you will be ushered to your seat on the night. Doors open at 5:40pm and the ceremony will start at 6:00pm and concludes at approximately 7:30pm. We are aware that there will be a few students and parents/carers arriving late due to Grand Final activities so we will allocate seats for those on the end of a row for ease of slipping in. If you are a family that is in this situation, please email Mrs Brewer to confirm. (abrew6@eq.edu.au)

2024 Fathering Project Events

The Fathering Project is an evidence-based organisation that aims to promote positive fathering behaviours and fathers’ engagement with their children.
The Fathering Project aims to inspire and equip fathers and father figures and help involve Dads and their kids through some hassle-free activities and events throughout the year.
Furthermore, the Fathering Project Website has a variety of resources that are available for you to access at any time.
Topics include;
- technology advice
- managing your kid’s big emotions
- cooking with your kids
- and fathers’ health and wellbeing.
On Monday 18 November some of our Curra Dad’s enjoyed our Term 4 Father and kids event “Dodgeball & Pizza night”. The night included pizza, dodgeball and some socialising. Look out for our 2025 termly events as we aim to grow our group.

More engaged dads and father-figures leads to:
- More parents engaging in the school community,
- More diversity in parent engagement,
- More support for school staff and understanding school procedures, and
- More consistency between home and school messages and values.

As we reflect back on all we have achieved in fundraising in 2024 we would love to extend a huge thanks to our community for your support this year, whether you volunteered at an event, donated products or attended one of our events we just couldn’t do this without you!
We’ve had numerous BBQs/Discos/a Movie Night with Sideshow alley/Mother’s & Father’s Day stalls and a Trivia night to name a few, which has helped us raise around $28,000 this year.
Speaking of Trivia nights....
A huge shoutout to Lisa for organising another fantastic trivia night - the feedback has been incredible and with an over $9000 profit it was a super successful event.
Next year will look a little differently in fundraising as I step down as fundraising officer. This means to have events like discos/movie nights/Mother’s Day & Father’s Day stalls, new fundraising initiatives and events continue for our community, we will need new passionate members of our school community to put their hands up and come on board the P&C to take us into the future.

YMCA OSHC NEWS

This month has been full of fun and new activities, using the sun to our advantage as we spent heaps of time outdoors. We took our volleyball skills to the oval as we created mixed teams to develop our teamwork and communication skills. On the other side, our boys decided on their regular games of soccer and goal shooting. We certainly have some real up and coming stars here! Our girls took it upon themselves to challenge educators to a hand-stand competition. Though we weren’t all victorious, it was lovely to see the girls helping one another with little tips to improve their skills.
The excitement did not stop inside the hall as we got messy with the paints, using our handprints to create all different animals and objects around our environment – the thanksgiving turkey, my personal favourite! We had cups galore at some point this month with no idea where they had come from, but the children were obsessed. We made phone lines, towers, crazy hair cup people and held stacking contests for those with great speed and co-ordination. We got better as the weeks went on. Our felt boards made an appearance this month also, to facilitate all the creative stories we hear from the kids at YMCA. Sack races, limbo, helicopter, tug of war, and red light/green light were just some of the amazing suggestions we got from the children for our programmed games with plenty of participation from all grades. Curra favourites of chess, building blocks, kinetic sand and colouring activities are always on offer for our lovely children as well.
On Monday 11 November we remembered our fallen soldiers where we researched stories of the past. In our craft room, we used paper plates and other home materials to create some beautiful red poppies to signify the importance of this day.
Term 4 is almost coming to an end. Children and staff are excited about our Vacation Care program.
