PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

I begin this newsletter with the news that I will retire at the end of this term.
I love our little school by the beach, however, in the 41st year of my teaching career it is time for me to take time for myself and my family away from the schedule and demands of school leadership.
I am very proud to be leaving a very active and community minded P&C, a tremendously supportive parent body as well as 80 plus staff who work incredibly hard to maximise student outcomes. The temporary Currimundi State School principal position has been advertised this week and will follow a merit process to appoint a replacement principal who will commence term 3.
School Uniform
An email will be sent home very soon detailing some changes to the school uniform. These changes will be graduated in to use.
Our P&C have sourced more sensory friendly and more comfortable materials for school shirts, shorts and skorts. Although bike pants are not part of our uniform but there has been a steady increase in wearing them because of their wearing comfort compared to the more restrictive skorts and shorts. The new additions to the unform will provide a comfortable fit. We are expecting the new uniforms to be available in term 4.
Triple P Sessions
The recent Triple P sessions run by our Student Wellbeing Psychologist, Megan Laws were well attended and well received by the parents/carers who registered. One of the points identified in the parent/carer feedback was the uncertainty of the well-being team at school.
Currimundi State School is proud to have a comprehensive Student Support Network in place to help the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of every student. In addition to the assistance provided by class teachers, we have a team of professions whose dedicate roles are to help ensure our school is an inclusive, nurturing environment. Students can approach any trusted school staff member at Currimundi State School to seek assistance or advice. If they are unable to assist, they will provide guidance and help ensure the student is connected to the appropriate representative of the Student Support Network.

Department of Education- Global Engagement
I would like to make you aware of the DoE Global Engagement online programs available for primary school students including:
- Beginner Language Experience (September 2025 school holidays)
The Beginner Language Experience and Global Passport – Explore the World in 5 Days programs are designed for direct parent engagement, with no involvement required from schools. Parents simply complete an online expression of interest.

Yrs 03-06 Athletics Carnival & Prep – Yr 02 Sports Day Update

Dear Parents/Carers
We wish to inform you that the Prep - 02 Sports Day and the Years 03 to 06 Athletics Day have been postponed until Term 3.
This decision has been made due to the recent weather conditions and the current state of the school oval, which is not suitable for safe use at this time.
New dates for both events will be advised in due course.
We appreciate your understanding and support.
Kind regards
Ben Brown

Deputy Principal | Yr 03 - 06 | Amelia Tolliday

Wow – how did we get to week 6 so quickly!
As always there is so much great stuff happening here at Currimundi - we have a lot to be proud of.
In the last few weeks in the senior school we have had:
Year 04 – recycling guest speaker
Year 03 and 05 – StarLab
Year 03 – Retile Incursion
Year 05 – Life Education talks
All students – Walk to School Day
Year 05 and 06 - Readers Cup
Not to mention the day-to-day activities of Musical, games in the hall, reading corner Lego at lunchtime etc
School photos occurred a few weeks ago and we are already beginning with the proofing process. We usually receive these at the end of this term or early next term. More information about school photos will be sent to parents shortly.
We are happy to report that our school’s overall attendance is very high @ Currimundi State School – however we are noticing a number of families have large periods of time off for holiday/ family reasons – if you know that your child will be absent from school for an extended period please contact the front office so we can ensure continuity of learning and discuss the exemption process.
Teachers are also closely monitoring attendance as we are in a very high assessment period. Your child’s attendance rate will be listed on their Semester 1 report card however you can speak to the classroom teacher about attendance at any time.

It is getting colder quickly, and we can see the jumpers coming out thick and fast. We ask parents/carers to remember we are a proud uniform school and as per out policy jumpers should the school’s uniform or be bottle green (not black) – teachers are currently speaking to students about the importance of uniform and we would appreciate your support at home. For further information about our uniform policy please see our website.
Yr 06 High School Transition Day | Tuesday 24 June
At the end of the term all of our year 06 students have the opportunity to experience a day at High School. One of our teachers will attend each school with the students who make their own way to and from the high school on the day.

Year 06 parents and carers, please check for the information that has already been dispersed by our school and ensure forms are returned to the office asap.
Please note:
- Parent/Carers are to transport students to and from their perspective, in zone High School.
- If your student is absent on this day due to illness, family, etc., please ensure that this is added to QParents/Notify Absence as per normal process.
As always, we value our school community and appreciate the partnership with have with families. This week the leadership team has been visiting a number of classes and I would like to congratulate the high standard of active learning in classrooms. Progress and improvement is a daily culmination of effort and growth, and I encourage all parents and carers to consider the following 5 questions to ask their children in order to create an opportunity for informative conversations about learning ….
- What did you learn today?
- How did you go?
- What did you do if you didn’t understand?
- How can you improve on your learning?
- What are you most proud of?
(Lyn Sharratt – 5 Questions for Parents)

Academic reporting Semester 1 2025
Academic reporting is about communication to parents and students about achievement and progress in the curriculum provided. Academic reports provide point in time information about achievement at the end of each reporting period. Report cards will be sent home at the end of this term and there will then be opportunities for discussions between teachers and parents provided in term 3.
School reporting processes are clear and transparent for parents/carers, so they understand:
- the learning expectations for the student
- the student’s achievement against expected standards
- how well the student is engaging with the expected learning
- how the student may be able to improve
Reporting is based on evidence. Reports reflect:
- judgments about the quality of student learning, based on evidence collected during the reporting period
- the student’s most consistent level of achievement with consideration to more recent evidence.
Changes from 2025
Prep Year - provide and experience
- The Australian Curriculum V9 now has Prep achievement standards for each learning area.
- The term ‘experience’ has been introduced in response to this update.
- Decisions about which learning areas will be provided and which will be experienced are documented.
- Schools select the semester, the time allocated and whether or not the learning area will be reported on.
- Provide means to teach, assess and report on. Schools provide English, Mathematics and Health and Physical Education in every semester in Prep.
- Experience means teach and monitor – not reported on.
Reporting scales
- Schools use an A–E or equivalent scale to report achievement on academic reports. The scale acknowledges the range of performance against the relevant standard. Reporting scales describe the demonstrated learning in relation to the relevant standard.

Did you Know?
An academic rating of ‘Working With – WW’ or a ‘C’ means the student is demonstrating the expected knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard.
What is National Reconciliation Week?
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) – 27 May - 03 June – is a time for all Australians to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Today, thousands of people celebrate the week in workplaces, schools, early learning services and communities around the country.
Use this factsheet
to learn more about the significance and history of the week and find out what you can do to get involved.
The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.
Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

How TUFF are you?
On Friday 20 June, Currimundi State School will be running its 12th Annual TUFF CURRA. For new parents/carers to the school, TUFF CURRA is our famous, unique obstacle course fundraiser. Students will get an hour session to do unlimited laps of the course with many fun obstacles to navigate. It is a colour explosion activity so students will come out looking like a walking rainbow!

Each student will receive a fundraising brochure with lots of wonderful prizes that can be achieved for raising different levels of money. Prizes start at only $10! There is also a 'Go Green' option to plant a tree or a piece of coral in the ocean. Donations can only be made online.

START OF TERM BORROWING
Readers Cup 2025

HOW IT WORKS:
Readers Cup is an annual event organised by the Qld Branch of the Children's Book Council of Australia. It is a state-wide competition for young readers in Years 05 - 10. Teams of four students together read a set of books, and then compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions from the books.
Readers Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete at a regional and state level similar to sporting competitions and to meet other students with an equal passion for books.
REGIONAL COMPETITION FORMAT:
- Five rounds of questions with each round having one question from each book
- Teams of four sit around one table or just on chairs with clipboards. A ‘spare’ player sits away from the group.
- Students may confer to write the answer to the question on a prepared answer sheet.
- Students are normally given 30 seconds to complete their answer. The competition allows more time for some questions that require more writing.
- Teams may substitute a member at the end of any round.
- Answers are collected at the end of each round. They are given points for their correctness. (All questions have equal scores with 2 points for a correct answer and part points for an incomplete answer.)
- The scorer keeps a tally of the scores. Progressive scores may be announced throughout the event.
- Team with the highest score goes to the state final.
ONCE SCHOOL TEAM IS SELECTED:
- Hold team meetings to discuss the books and to make up questions to ask each other.
- The spirit of the cup is for the teams to organise their own reading schedule and approach to understanding the books.
Coaching is not allowed
2025 READER’S CUP TEAM SELECTION SCHEDULE:

YMCA OSHC NEWS

We're off to a fantastic start to Term 2! We've welcomed two wonderful new staff members to our team, and their presence has brought fresh energy and enthusiasm to our space. Our new routines are now in full swing, with a strong focus on utilising our outdoor play areas and the playground, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed.
Our creativity has flourished through a range of engaging craft experiences — our playdough and sensory tools have been a big hit, and the children have produced a variety of colourful drawings and imaginative creations.
We've also kept active with plenty of outdoor games, from group activities to individual play, encouraging both social and physical development. Our Prep students have settled beautifully into the new routine of entering their own space in the afternoons, showing great independence and adaptability.
It’s been a positive and productive start to the term, and we’re excited for what’s ahead!

Thank you, The Y Staff.
