PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jillian Pass

As Semester 1 draws to a close, I write with a mix of gratitude as I step down as Principal of Currimundi State School. My 40 plus years proudly choosing to work in State schools, 30 years as a classroom teacher, has been a wonderful career privilege.
Thank you for trusting me with your children’s education and for being part of my journey. As I step into this next chapter, know that I remain one of this school’s biggest advocates.
Following a rigorous merit selection process run for a replacement principal for Currimundi State School I am very proud to announce that Aaron Willis is the successful candidate. Aaron is currently the substantive principal of Mapleton State School and brings with him years of leadership and curriculum experience. He is very much looking forward to taking up the principal position at our friendly little school by the beach.
Report Cards
Our teachers have been spending many hours at night, and across the weekends, completing each student’s end of semester report card. These reports are a comprehensive account of how your child is progressing against the expectation of the Australian Curriculum.
Report cards were emailed home on Wednesday 25 June this week.
Please take the time to read the reports in detail and celebrate your child’s achievements this semester. Parent teacher interviews will be held at the start of Term 3 to allow parents/carers to further unpack their child’s learning gains and learning goals with the class teacher. If you did not receive your child’s report card by email, please check your junk mail for this important email. If you did not receive an email at all please contact the office as soon as possible.
Parent/carers meetings are always welcome but not required at this stage. Please book directly with your child’s teacher if you require a meeting.
Parent teacher meetings are now scheduled twice a year at mid semester junctures with the purpose of informing parents/carers of their child’s learning progress before final assessments are determined.
Facilities
During the June school holidays our oldest demountable will be removed. Modifications to a number of other blocks will be completed in readiness for term 3 commencement.
School recommences Monday 14 July.
Wishing you and your family a relaxing and joyful winter break.
Jillian Pass
Principal
Deputy Principal | Yr 03 - 06 | Amelia Tolliday

It is great sadness that my time here at Currimundi comes to an end. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the CURRA community and will genuinely miss students, staff and families. In Term 3 I will continue my journey in the primary sector (from High school) at Nirimba State Primary School – I’m sure I will see many of you around the coast and encourage you to come and say hello if you see me. Before I go some important information for our upper school students.
Year 06 transition day
What a great day for all students!
I really encourage to get your enrolments into the high school as quickly as possible as once parents/carers have put this in we can start having conversations with the high schools about your child and how to best support their transition. If you have questions about enrolment, please visit your catchment area high school website.
TUFF CURRA…..
What a great day – I was so lucky to be part of this experience while I was here at Currimundi.
Well done to all students who fundraised and an extra special thank you to Mr Jones who does a great job of organising the day.
Although I got the short end of the stick with getting slimed in winter I will look back at the event with a smile.

Year 05 Aspirants
We have had lots and lots of interested year 05 in our aspirant program - applications are now closed and successful candidates will be announced early next term.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday.
I will miss Currimundi and wish all families the very best for the remainder of the year.
Regards
Amelia Tolliday

During the excursion, students will be undertaking the following activities:
- Wearing full school uniform including school hat

To celebrate 100 days of Prep learning, all Prep students are invited to dress up like they are 100 years old! Please don’t rush out and buy any costumes as something from home will be fine. Here are a few ideas that may help your child dress the part:

- Grey Hair
- Hair curlers
- Glasses
- Shawl
- Robe
- Bow Tie
- Grey Beard/Moustache
- Cane
- Knee high socks
Or USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!
For safety reasons, please wear sun safe clothes and appropriate shoes.
During the day we will participate in a range of activities relating to the number 100.
We look forward to meeting our elderly residents!
YEAR 01 NEWS
Year 01 have all made a spectacular effort for their first Semester! It has been wonderful to watch them “grow and learn” and be a great role model for the new Preppies. This Semester brought the movement of most Year 01 classrooms, with a new classroom position for Term 3. 1S, Mrs Surridge, remain in their current classroom. 1T, 1V and 1C are all moving into classrooms within in the Library. These rooms are being adjusted over the holidays to cater for the change. With this will come a slight change in routine for lining up in the mornings, however eating area, play area and toilets that are accessed will remain the same. Line up location will be in the under covered area.

YEAR 02 NEWS

As an introduction to our Semester 2 Humanities and Social Science (HASS) unit titled 'Impacts of Technology Over Time,' our Year 02 students will be visiting Caboolture Historical Village on Thursday 17 July, 2025. During this excursion, students will explore changes in lifestyle, transportation, communication, and industry resulting from technology and innovation. They will gather information about daily life in the past and will be challenged to consider how daily life has changed or remained the same. This experience will be valuable and enhance the concepts covered in the HASS unit of work.
Leaving from: Currimundi State School Hall carpark at 8:40am
Returning to: Currimundi State School Hall carpark at 2:30pm
During the excursion, students will be undertaking the following activities:

Parent help is encouraged for this excursion to assist with the supervision of the students in smaller groups in order to maximise the experience. Parent helpers will be assigned to a small group of students. Please let your classroom teacher know as soon as possible if you are able to assist on the day. Please note that smaller siblings will not be able to attend this excursion. Due to limited seats numbers on the two buses, parent helpers will need to provide their own transport or carpool to and from the Historical Village. An entry fee of $13 per adult is payable by parents on entry. What to Bring: Hat Water bottle Raincoat if raining Morning tea and lunch (which students carry in their own school bag) This is deemed a MEDIUM risk activity. ICAS Assessments | 2025 Current Year 02 – 06 Students
We know our students are always looking for the next challenge, so we’re giving them the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their talents in the world-renowned ICAS competition this year.
What is ICAS?
ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.
Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for one of the highly coveted ICAS medals.
There is an early start time for these assessments so that normal school is not interrupted.
These are optional assessments. You can elect to participate in one, some or all the assessments.
This year, our students can elect to sit the following assessments: 😊

How to participate in ICAS
If you wish for your child to participate in ICAS this year, please go to the Parent Portal to sign up to your chosen subject areas using the link and code below.
Registration for all subject areas closes on Monday 28 July at 11:59pm.

Academic reporting Semester 1 2025
Academic reporting is about communication to parents/carers and students about achievement and progress in the curriculum provided. Academic reports provide point in time information about achievement at the end of each reporting period. Report cards will be sent home at the end of this term and there will then be opportunities for discussions between teachers and parents provided in term 3.
School reporting processes are clear and transparent for parents/carers, so they understand:
- the learning expectations for the student
- the student’s achievement against expected standards
- how well the student is engaging with the expected learning
- how the student may be able to improve
Reporting is based on evidence. Reports reflect:
- judgments about the quality of student learning, based on evidence collected during the reporting period
- the student’s most consistent level of achievement with consideration to more recent evidence.
Changes from 2025
Prep Year - provide and experience
- The Australian Curriculum V9 now has Prep achievement standards for each learning area.
- The term ‘experience’ has been introduced in response to this update.
- Decisions about which learning areas will be provided and which will be experienced are documented.
- Schools select the semester, the time allocated and whether the learning area will be reported on.
- Provide means to teach, assess and report on. Schools provide English, Mathematics and Health and Physical Education in every semester in Prep.
- Experience means teach and monitor – not reported on.
Reporting scales
- Schools use an A–E or equivalent scale to report achievement on academic reports. The scale acknowledges the range of performance against the relevant standard. Reporting scales describe the demonstrated learning in relation to the relevant standard.

- In Prep–Year 6, Behaviour and Effort also have an A-E rating.
Did you Know?
An academic rating of ‘Working With – WW’ or a ‘C’ means the student is demonstrating the expected knowledge, understanding and skills from the achievement standard.
NAIDOC Week 6 - 13 July 2025
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.
NAIDOC Poster art is created by Jeremy Morgan Worrall.
Ancestral Lines is a visual representation of the lines and ties that follow a generation and the songs that come with it.
The 2025 NAIDOC Week theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”, celebrates not only the achievements of the past but also the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities and the legacy of our ancestors.

TUFF CURRA

How TUFF were we?
On Friday 20 June, the 12th Annual TUFF CURRA was held. This obstacle course fund-raiser was inspired by Tough Mudder, with tunnels, walls and slip n slides just a few of the obstacles that students needed to conquer.
Although a slight delay due to the fundraising truck breaking down on the way, the day was wonderful, with so many smiles on the faces of participants. As well as lots of fun the day also helps to raise money for the school to do projects that will benefit them. Last year, TUFF CURRA money along with a grant went towards the new basketball/netball court and the 1-2 playground.
This year we raised over an amazing $33,000 with us keeping approx. $21,000 profit. The fundraising company keep a percentage which goes on the fundraising online platform, coloured powder, prizes and 2 staff members with inflatables, foam machine including a visit from Monty the Mon-star.
Congratulations to Prep Red and 4T who each won a pizza party, Prep Red also took out the prize of a handball each as the most number of students to get involved. 6 students also got the chance to slime Mrs Tolliday and Mr Webb!
Thank you to everyone who got involved on the day and through support of fundraising, I think this might have been the best one yet. I look forward to the money raised benefiting the school.
How TUFF are you?

STEVE BELSHAM CUP – RUGBY LEAGUE WRAP UP

Our Curra team proudly represented the school at the annual Steve Belsham Cup Rugby League carnival, competing with great spirit, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
We finished 6th overall, a solid result in a strong field of teams. Every player gave their all on the field, showing grit in both attack and defence across multiple games.
Special mentions go to:
- Ethan 6G – for great leadership and silky touches
- Lachlan 5/6C – for tireless effort and strong runs through the middle
- Gizelle 6J – for fearless defence and excellent positioning
- Archie 5/6C – for consistent effort and support play
Well done to all players involved – your teamwork and attitude made us proud!

SEQ CUP

Last minute heartbreak
On Wednesday 19June, selected students competed in the district final of the SEQ Cup. Currimundi played against Mountain Creek in a 9 aside game with the winning school going onto the next stage.
We started strong early with a quick goal to Zeplin, and kept up the early pressure with various chances. Finn made some wonderful saves in goal and just before halftime a long ball put Zeplin through, he was able to control and place it past the keeper.
HT 2-0
In the second half Mountain Creek took advantage of a slow start by us and scored 2 quick goals. They started to put the pressure on with the boys fighting hard with Jesse particularly putting in a shift to get back to win back possession and clear any danger. With the game looking like it was going to penalties Mountain Creek scored a late winner.
FT 2-3
I would like to congratulate the team for their efforts and attitude during the game and training, we now look ahead to the Interschool Sport trophies where Yr6 students will look to go one better after making the Yr6 final as a Yr5 team last year.

📰 Currimundi P&C – Term 2 Wrap-Up
As we reach the end of Term 2, we want to take a moment to thank our Currimundi community for your ongoing support through what’s been a particularly challenging term for many. It hasn’t always been easy, but the strength and care within our school community continues to shine through.
👋 Farewell and Thank You, Jill
This term we say farewell to our principal, Jill, as she steps into retirement. Jill has given so much to Currimundi over the years — often in ways that aren’t visible to the wider community — and we want to acknowledge and thank her for her unwavering dedication to our school. Jill, we wish you all the best for the next chapter and hope retirement brings rest, joy, and plenty of time for the things you love most.
🥧 Pie Drive Impact
A big thank you to everyone who supported the Term 2 Pie Drive. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $1,300 in profit, which will go directly towards our P&C’s commitment to help fund new laptops for the school. We were also able to donate 13 pie packs to Currimundi families who could do with some extra support right now. This kind of practical kindness is what makes our community so special.
🏆 P&C Conference Recognition
At the recent P&C Queensland State Conference, our executive team was proud to represent Currimundi and connect with other school communities across the state. We’re excited to share that we received an award for Positive Community Partnership—a wonderful recognition of the work being done here at Curra. We also came away with fresh ideas and insights to help us grow even stronger as a P&C in the months ahead.
👀 What’s Ahead in Term 3
Next term is already shaping up to be an exciting one with the return of our much-loved Father’s Day Stall, and the big event everyone’s looking forward to — Frozen Jr – The Musical. We can’t wait to celebrate the talents of our incredible students and see our school community come together once again.
💚 Stay Connected – Become a P&C Member
If you haven’t already, we warmly invite you to become a member of the Currimundi P&C. It’s not about signing up to volunteer—unless you want to—it’s simply a way to stay informed, stay connected, and help us ensure the P&C reflects the voices of as many families as possible. The more members we have, the more representative we can be.

Wishing you all a safe, restful school holiday. We look forward to seeing you in Term 3!

We have included some Tips & Tricks for ordering on Munch Monitor.

Volunteers
We’d love your help in the Tuckshop this Term, if you can spare some time!
We have lots of shifts available each week plus have other jobs that can be done any time if you find yourself with some time during the week.
You can sign up for our available shifts using the following link:
You can contact our Tuckshop Convenor via email currimundi.ss.tuckshop@gmail.com if you have time to do some odd jobs in Tuckshop during the week. These things may include: folding forks & serviettes, writing on our sandwich bags, writing on our dino nugget bags etc.
To volunteer in our Tuckshop, you don’t need a Blue Card if you’re a parent of one of our students. If you’re a Grandparent or Carer, then you can easily apply for a Volunteer Blue Card. We are more than happy to assist with this process.
