PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Mr Aaron Willis

From the Principal’s Desk
With five weeks already down in Term 3, the time is flying by! It has been wonderful to see our teachers and students engaging in rich learning activities as we work towards upcoming assessments. This week I was fortunate enough to spend some time with 5F, who delivered a very persuasive proposal that I’m still thinking about.
Week 5 was also Bullying. No Way! Week, where students participated in activities focused on kindness, inclusion, and supporting each other. These experiences help our students build stronger peer connections, develop empathy, and understand the importance of speaking up when something isn’t right, all vital skills for creating a outstanding CURRA kids.
The next few weeks are packed with exciting opportunities for our students, thanks to the dedication of our staff and the support of our community. Next week marks the opening of our Frozen Jnr musical, which promises to be a highlight of the year. A huge thank you in advance to our talented cast, backstage crew, school staff, P&C, and community volunteers for the countless hours you’ve put in to bring this production to life.
Our HPE team have also been hard at work preparing students for the Beach Carnival in Week 10 and our Athletics Carnivals Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 August for Years 03 – 06, and Monday 1 September for Prep – Year 02. This week also marks the start of Surf Life Saving lessons for our Year 05 and 06 students, run by our HPE staff, an important program that builds water safety skills and confidence.
In Week 8, we will be holding our Parent Teacher Interviews. Booking details will be sent out to families shortly, and I encourage you to take this opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss their progress.
This week our Prep – Year 02 students will be celebrating Book Week with a parade on Friday 15 August at 9:00am in the school hall. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character in line with this year’s theme – Book an Adventure. We can’t wait to see the creativity on display!
I’m also pleased to share that our Student Wellbeing Psychologist, Miss Laws, will be running Triple P – Positive Parenting Program courses on Monday’s, starting 18 August from 8:45am to 10:15am. Triple P is designed to give families practical strategies to promote children’s development, manage behaviour positively, and strengthen family relationships. It’s a valuable opportunity for any parent or carer wanting to build confidence and skills in their parenting. You can book by contacting our office on 5436 6888 or emailing administration@currimundiss.eq.edu.au
We are excited to share that progress is underway for the redevelopment of B Block. Work is scheduled to begin over the summer holidays, and, pending weather, we anticipate receiving handover of the completed building at some stage in Semester 2, 2026. We appreciate parents’/carers’ understanding as we navigate very tight room allocations for students in the meantime and into 2026.
In addition, we have secured funding for a range of facilities maintenance upgrades that will commence over the September holidays. Our fantastic Business Manager, Mrs Hyder, has done an outstanding job in securing these funds and coordinating the upcoming works, which will further enhance our school environment.
A gentle reminder – students are only permitted to use school playgrounds after school when under the direct supervision of an adult. During this time, teachers are still working in classrooms and use this time to reflect on the day, contact families regarding wellbeing supports and plan for the next day’s instruction. Interruptions to this can add to an increased workload for our dedicated staff.
Thanks again for your ongoing support as we move through a busy but exciting part of the term.
Regards,
Aaron Willis (Acting Principal)
Did You Know? – Social Media Age Limit Changes Coming in December
From December, the Australian Government will introduce new laws setting minimum age limits for social media use. These changes are being made to help protect children from some of the harmful impacts social media can have, such as:
- Exposure to inappropriate content
- Cyberbullying and online harassment
- Impact on mental health and self-esteem
- Distraction from learning and sleep disruption
Tips for parents:
- Know the apps your child is using and the age ratings.
- Set clear boundaries and time limits for online activity.
- Keep devices out of bedrooms overnight.
- Have open conversations about safe and respectful online behaviour.
- Model healthy technology use yourself.

Halfway Already!
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the halfway mark of Term 3 already. Time flies when you're surrounded by curious minds, meaningful learning, and a school community that’s always buzzing with activity. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making these first five weeks so productive and positive. Focusing on Student Success at Currimundi, we remain focused on our two key priorities:
- Increasing the number of students achieving a B or above in English and Maths
- Delivering engaging curriculum aligned to the Version 9 Achievement Standards
Teachers have completed pre-assessments and provided individual feedback to students, helping them take ownership of their learning. I’ve also started one-on-one data conversations with staff to celebrate progress and plan next steps. These discussions highlight just how well our teachers know their students and are another way we stay focused on every child’s success.
Standing Tall Against Bullying
This week, we participated in the Bullying. No Way! National Week of Action. The theme, “Be the change: united for kindness, inclusion and respect,” reminds us of the role we all play in creating a safe school community.
Students revisited our CURRA Kids Stand Tall strategy:
- Talk – Use a friendly or firm “I” message
- Walk – Move away
- Squawk – Report to a trusted adult
These steps empower students to respond to conflict safely and respectfully. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home.
So Much Happening at Curra!
We’ve had a fantastic start to Term 3, with our Year 03 to 06 students engaging in a variety of rich learning experiences. These are just some of the highlights so far:
- Year 05 and 06 Surf Life Saving lessons
- Year 05 Italian Immersion Day
- Year 06 Turtle Care talk from Sunshine Coast Council
- Author visit from Trevor Fourmile
- Year 04’s St Helena Island excursion was postponed — new date to come
This Friday, we’re excited to see our Year 03 and 04 students in Book Week costumes, and for Year 05 and 06 students to take to the fields for Interschool Sport, after last week’s cancellation.
And there’s still more to come with our Athletics Carnival and Beach Carnival later this term!
Kind Regards
Tina

Deputy Principal | Prep – Yr 02 | Mrs Amanda Brewer

Our junior sector celebrated the end of BOOK WEEK 2025 today with a dress up and Parade. Our over the fence Sparrow Early Learning Prep friends visited as well, along with some of our other Pre-Prep children. The theme for 2025 was BOOK AN ADVENTURE. Our classes listened to The WOBBLY Bike read by me, paraded their costumes and sang a song about reading. A huge thank you to parents/carers, teachers and extended family who assisted with costumes and preparations, making this important celebration of reading such a success. This week has been a fabulous celebration with the Library being a hive of fun activities all week.

Pre-Prep activities and events have begun. If you are a current Currimundi family, please contact the front office as soon as possible to organise your enrolment paperwork for 2026.
Please see the attached for the Transition activities and timelines.

Issue 6 will be sent home this week or early next week!
In here you’ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $3).
The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
The school no longer accepts payments using cash.
Every book sold through Book Club earns free books and resources for our library for our staff and students to enjoy!

We are always looking for some superstar volunteers to help out in Tuckshop.
Can you spare 30-60 minutes once a week? If so, we would love your help to stick labels on lunch bags.
Or if you love to help out in the kitchen, we are always looks for people to help in our ‘prep & serve’ shift. This is about 2 hours and you are helping with cooking dinosaur nuggets in the oven, making sandwiches & salads and packing the lunches into class boxes for students to collect.
Please get in touch and we can find a spot that will suit your availability!
Contact currimundi.ss.tuckshop@gmail.com or you can pop in and see us!

YMCA OSHC NEWS

So far August has been a fantastic month full of new energy and exciting developments in our Before and After School Care program! We proudly launched our new Club Programming, where each educator runs their very own club during various session times. From creative arts, sports to challenges and everything in between, the response from the children has been overwhelmingly positive, with strong participation and enthusiasm across the board.
We’ve also seen amazing engagement in our Rugby League incursions, which have continued to be a highlight. The children have shown great teamwork, skills development, and, most importantly, had loads of fun!
As we keep moving through August, we’re keeping the momentum going with more enriching club sessions and active incursions planned. It’s shaping up to be another month filled with connection, creativity, and learning through play.

Thank you, The Y team.
