PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE | Ms Jill Pass

I extend a warm welcome to all our new CURRA families who have joined us this term as well as our returning CURRA families. The halfway point of the school year seems to have come around so quickly and here we are, now looking forward to the second half of the year.
As always there’s lots happening this term, including; Surf Life Saving Excellence (before school with Mr Chamberlain), year 05 & 06 Interschool sport, School Beach Carnival, Book Week celebrations, and of course our wonderful 2023 musical - Shrek Jnr.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS – UNPACKING THE REPORT CARD
As part of our school’s commitment to effective reporting, in term 3 we offer the opportunity for parents/carers and teachers to meet to ‘Unpack the Report Card’. All class interviews are scheduled in the first 2 weeks of the term.
This encompasses:
- Clarifying the ‘Report Card’ results and comments.
- Allowing teachers and parents/carers to discuss the achievements in a partnership.
- Celebrating the learner’s results.
- Gathering important information about ‘next steps’ for individual students e.g., set new directions for learning.
We encourage all parents/carers to attend our parent teacher interviews.
To book your session, please visit the link below and enter the code an2vg.

Tuff Curra
Once again the ever popular Tuff Curra event was lots of fun for all our students as well as an amazing fund raiser for our school.
This year there was the option for students to choose a prize or to purchase a tree or to grow coral as a reward for their fund-raising efforts.
This worked out to be that Curra kids provided 235 trees or coral - Just fantastic!
All funds raised (about $14000!) will go towards our playground structures project.

2023 School Opinion Survey
The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted 24 July to 18 August 2023. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (05, 06, 08 and 11) will be invited to participate.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Carer Survey will be emailed to one parent/carer per family next week. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and carers, 2023. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone. Keep an eye out for yours!
Parents/Carers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. Please contact the office on 07 5436 6888 or via email admin@currimundiss.eq.edu.au to arrange.
Yours in Education

Welcome back to Term 3! It's wonderful to have everyone back for another engaging and productive term.
Attendance
Attendance and punctuality play a vital role in students' success. Coming to school every day and on time is essential for optimal learning and engagement. Regular attendance ensures that students don't miss out on valuable instruction and the opportunity to actively participate in classroom activities. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child's regular attendance and punctuality.
Uniforms
It's always lovely to walk around the school and see students in full uniform. I would like to kindly remind students to wear the full school uniform, including short white socks and black shoes. The school uniform fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and equality among students. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that your child comes to school dressed in the appropriate uniform.
Please have a quick read of our Student Dress Code which can also be found on our website.
👴👵🎉 Celebrating 100 Days of Prep! 👴👵✨
Today, our Prep students achieved a significant milestone! They successfully completed 100 days of Prep, and to commemorate this achievement, they decided to transform themselves into the most adorable elderly individuals, accompanied by the Prep staff.
Despite the rain, we refused to let it dampen our spirits and creativity. Instead, we gathered in the undercover area and created a magnificent 💯 symbol, celebrating this special occasion.

Year 02 excursion
On Thursday 27 July 2023, our Year 02 students will embark on an exciting field trip to Caboolture Historical Village to explore the past and look at how things have changed. It's a fantastic opportunity for them to learn about history firsthand.
Head Lice - You can help stop the spread!

Head lice are common in children, particularly between the ages of 3 and 11 years, and have nothing to do with personal hygiene or cleanliness. While head lice don't carry disease, their bites can cause itching and skin irritation. To reduce your child's risk of getting head lice, you can ensure long hair is tied up, discourage the sharing of brushes and combs, and minimize head-to-head contact with others. Remember, anyone can get head lice. These critters have no preferences for hair colour or type, age, or ethnicity. Check out this fact sheet for more information.
Oral Health Lessons
Last term, Dr. Michelle from Coast Family Dental Currimundi visited our Prep classes and gave a fun and interactive lesson on how students can look after their teeth. The children learned that healthy eating, as well as brushing for 2 minutes twice a day, helps keep plaque away. Some Preppies have started to lose their baby teeth. The chart below might be a helpful reference as to when baby teeth might fall out, but remember there can be a wide variation.

Prep 2024 - Pre-Prep Transition Program

Thank you to all future Prep families who have already submitted their enrolment forms for 2024.
Starting school is an exciting time for students and parents/carers. The first step is to determine when your child can commence their Prep year by visiting the Department of Education’s Prep-ready calculator
https://www.earlyyearscount.earlychildhood.qld.gov.au/kindy-calculator/
If you have a child starting Prep in 2024, please notify the office as we are now taking enrolments.
Prep Tours
Last semester, I had the privilege of showcasing our friendly little school by the beach to many of our prospective 2024 Preps and their families. These tours will continue this term for families wanting to enrol or wanting to know more about what Currimundi has to offer.
I am looking forward to meeting many more prospective parents/carers. If you would like to schedule a tour, kindly use the provided link to book your spot online:

Communication between school and home is crucial, and we encourage an open dialogue with parents/carers and teachers. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers or myself if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. We value your partnership in your child's educational journey.
If we support our children to have a positive approach to learning, to be resilient and give things a go they will flourish!
Kind Regard

Yr 03 - 06 News
Welcome back to Term 3.
Last term was so very busy with many events and celebrations for years 03 - 06. During Week 9, the students participated in our Currimundi Athletics Days. Both days were well attended by parents/carers and visitors, with students putting in their very best effort in every area of the athletics program.
A crowd favourite was the track races, with students cheering on their sporting teams and year level cohorts.
Following Athletics Day, we have students participating in the Coastal District Athletics days at the end of this month. We wish them well. A huge thank you to everyone for their support and attendance.
The winning house this year was Bilinga.

Student Newspaper – Year 03
This year, a group of students in Year 03 have been working with Miss Harbison our 3J teacher, to create a Currimundi newsletter for the students called the, “Curra Kid Chronicle”.
This group has continued from an initiative that began last year with Mrs Houtsma. The students have fun creating the articles, images and other content of the newspaper.
Term 3 will mark the 3rd volume for 2023. Please see the links to 1st & 2nd Volume below.

Year 04 – Lots Going On!
Year 04 have had the pleasure of participating in fun dress up days linked to their learning. In June they celebrated Queensland Day and participated in dress up and fun educational activities. At the end of the Term the year level celebrated their learning in the hall with a wonderful Mission: S.O.S. Learning Celebration display that was visited by most of the school and parents/carers. The students were very proud of their achievements.
The current Year 04 Unit includes a visit to St Helena Island. This excursion is a favourite with the students and includes participating in convict life on the island. Details have been emailed home and permission and payment are due by Wednesday 16 August 2023.
Year 05 – Aspirant Leaders
Our Year 05 Aspirant Leaders have been busily working in their portfolio areas. Many of the students will swap over to a different portfolio this term. There is an opportunity for other students to join if they wish to and if students wish to withdraw, they may also do this.
I will be talking with the year level about this in Week 2. The 2024 Student Leadership process begins in Term 4, with applications and the leadership process being finalised by the end of Term 4 ready for 2024.
Interschool Sport and Surf Life Saving Program Years 05 and 06
Year 05 and 06 have Interschool sport this Term. Students chose from a variety of sports including soccer, AFL, cricket, netball and Oztag. The interschool sports program involves all of our surrounding primary schools, with students travelling by bus each of the Friday dates.
We are very proud of the way that our students represent the school in a positive manner during this program. The Program runs on a Friday in weeks 4, 5, 7 and 9 of the term. Full details are provided in the consent online for QParent families or a hardcopy provided for Non QParent families. Payment for this activity is due Friday 21 July 2023.
Good luck to our teams!
Surf Lifesaving begins for our Year 5 and 6 students in week 2 and continues until week 7. There is no cost associated with this element of our physical education program however, permission is essential.

Year 06 – High school preparation
It is hard to believe that there are only 6 months left of primary school for our students!
Our year 06 students attended one of our local high schools in Week 10 last term as part of our State School Transition Program. Across the day I visited most students, who were immersed in fun High School activities, information sessions and orientation activities.
Our second High School transition experience is in Term 4, Week 10. This day is designed for students to attend the High school they are enrolled at.
Our Year 06 teachers do not attend this day with them. More detail will be shared in Term 4.
Regards,

Amanda Brewer

Prep – Year 02 | read or experience 20 books |
